Isaiah Jones

I think its to do with expectations. Our creative and attacking threats are a target for criticism it seems because some people expect them to rip through defences at will. If Adama had an off day boy did you hear about it. And the same with Jones who does not always come off. Thats the nature of football. Patience from fans would help.
Not sure that's the case. I think fans expectations of creative players are far too high and their understanding of football low. On 3 or 4 occasions yesterday when Jones received the ball deep in our own half the lads behind us wanted him to take his man on and go on a run, complete lunacy.
Jones' strength is when we get the ball to him in the final third against an isolated defender not running or dribbling the length of the pitch. Teams are doubling up on him and/or trying to stop the ball getting to him at all. Nevertheless he's still making a strong contribution and is a key part of the team, I'd hate to think he gets injured.

Agree with both of you. Adomah was the same: "crossing not good enough". "Doesn't track back well enough". "Switches off".

this after we'd sat through years with the likes of Willo Flood, Faris Haroun and Gary O'Neil as our wide right options!

I like Jones and he is a continual threat. It is because we have seen his capabilities that we become frustrated when we believe that he is not achieving his potential (yesterday his repeated failure to run down the line into space). I think that we tend to judge by what we think he could do, rather than what he has done.
Always on the team sheet for me.

Big Fan of this young man .
Hope the coaches keep him working on his running with the ball and his crossing and we will have an absolute gem on our hands .

Carrick acknowledged the lads were "half-a-yard-short" at times. That will be remedy`d by upping training tempo and increasing match fitness.

Wide players will always be a little inconsistent. The reason for that is it's their job to beat a man and they won't be able to do that every time. Isaiah Jones is a massive threat for us and the step up he's made from non league in a short space of time is incredible. Some of his touches yesterday were quality. He will always have my full support as the lad is willing to go at teams and take a risk and that should be admired. If you take that out of his game and make him more cautious in possession you are taking a lot out of his game. Thankfully we've got Carrick in charge who knows the score. He's taken a lot of the defensive responsibilities away from Jones by putting Smith behind him. He's now playing where he should be, in the top area of the pitch where he can cause teams problems. I'm sure he will go from strength to strength this season under Carrick's leadership.

I was saying the same, his and Smith's understanding of who was going where seemed off. There were a lot of times where if Jones had got on his bike Smith could have released him and he'd have been away. Equally Smith made runs outside him and Jones chose to drive infield instead. Maybe just a bit ring rusty from the lay-off but improvements could be made. They do look more of 'partnership' than McGree and Giles who seem to be under different instructions.

Jones was very good yesterday. The reason Giles has sooo much space to cross for the first Is Jones, look how many men he draws to him with a quick one 2 he plays prior to the goal.

Akpom hitting the post 2nd half comes from Jones lovely flick round the corner.

The 2nd goal arguably comes from Jones getting a man sent off allowing us to push on and build up pressure.

Some shockingly bad takes if anyone watching the game Saturday is thinking Jones had a bad game, you probably need to give up on the footy.

Yes he does frustrate sometimes but if he beat his man every single time and every single cross or pass found his man he'd be playing at a far far higher level.

What is important is that the fans don't get on his back when he does shank one into the crowd or he gets tackled by his full back as you dont want him to be afraid of losing it and choosing the safe option insude everytime.

It always annoyed me that Karanka would blame Albert for the team conceding a goal. We played 4-2-3-1 and it was like 6 defensive players and a goalie was never enough.
