Isaiah Jones

I see talk of getting in 40m plus and building a totally new squad - we have seen previously how too much change can have the opposite effect to the desired one - players take time to settle, teams take time to gel and we have to be up there from the off if we are going to challenge. There are obvious holes to fill already without us making additional problems for ourselves. Isaiah had a phenomenal season, all things considered. I can't imagine anyone saw his impact coming - I had seen him play once or twice as an anonymous sub prior to last year. Several things happened in the last 15 games -

1) teams figured out he was almost our only outlet (similar to Adama towards the end of his time with us) and closed it down
2) Crooks' form tailed off and we lost him to suspension - the understanding they had was brilliant earlier in the season and key to Jones' success
3) I think fatigue kicked in and also I felt he needed a bit more variety in his delivery - things to work on for the lad and the coaches

The way he spoke the other day, it felt like he appreciated what Boro have done for his career at a relatively late stage in his development- a big move for him now is the wrong thing and I hope he sees that.

Interesting one. The Jones of first half of the season was a revelation. Exciting to watch, took players on, set up most of our chances. For whatever reason, COVID, tactics or teams setting up to neutralise the Jones effect - last dozen or so games Jones was very average with little attacking impact. Will we get the early season or late season Jones when the season starts? On that basis is £15 million simply too temptin to resist?
As for a rebuild, unlike Jones, Tav finished the season stronger but had quite a spell when many on here questioned his contribution and continued inclusion.
Fry isn’t a kid anymore and misses too many games with injury to build a defence around him.
Add to that Tav and Fry have had a couple of years now to help secure promotion and it hasn’t happened.

Maybe clearing out the four of them , including Spence for circa £45m and bringing in seven or eight seasoned pro’s to play the Wilder way could provide a better formula for an automatic promotion place?

Can WHU be invited to put in a bid for Spence instead of Jones? That should hurry things up a bit with Spurs.

Said a while ago a £45m kitty from Spence, Jones, Fry and Tav will give Wilder all the ammunition he needs to get in his own promotion squad.
Instead of just investing the Djed Spence money on a new striker, we sell Jones, Fry and Tav and bring in Stacey, Humphreys & Kilkenny?
Worth it? We’re not spending the £45m are we..

Just seen the latest "West Ham to make swoop for Championship Winger".
I hope he has his say and stays.
On the other hand.....
Give us £20M and you can have him.
Dont honestly think he will be on his way.
Hes young, gifted and needs to stay with the Boro(y)

not every player is a walking ego. Plus he's just multiplied his wages by about 100x, doubling it won't be his immediate concern after that.
ego is not always a negative thing ... self esteem is a big part of ego and transfer rumours rubs this ..... he is feeling wanted at Boro thats for sure but the chance to move to a london premier club will tick a lot of boxes and maybe in the future this is a desire for him ... for it to be muted so early is a massive ego trip

I wish the transfer rumours on him would become muted

I'd really like to see us keep Jones. Most teams 'doubled up' on him in the latter part of the season. With a couple more creative players in the team they won't be able to do that.

Giles just stopped that.
