Is Warnock the new Cloughie?

Cloughie, never saw him play (my Dad used to rave about him and my Mam said he was dead big headed as she knew him as a kid) but see what he did as a Manager. How many players do you remember from his teams?

Seemed dead cocky if he was not your Manager, but got the best out of players like Derby who won the First Division with players like (Goalkeeper Colin Boulton, John Robson and Ron Webster), like Nottingham Forest who won the First Division with players like (Kenny Burns, Larry Lloyd, Colin Barrett, Frank Clark, David Needham, John McGovern, John Robertson, Ian Bowyer). In between he went to a top club (Leeds) and upset the stars and got sacked!

Neil Warnock seems similar. Cocky, confident, whatever you want to call it. At the start of the season he said that the League was wide open. When reporters talked about other teams he said things like, OK but I would back myself as a Manager against them.

Don’t go anywhere then Neil. Stay with us, no Superstar Club, no Superstar players. Just keep us playing like a team (or is it squad nowadays). One of these days we will be back in the stadium to applaud you.

Well BC stayed at Forest 20 years. Big contrast with NW who has been for whatever reason a mangerial nomad

Some things are best left unchallenged. I really think there was only one Brian Clough and they certainly don’t make them like him anymore , hence I wouldn’t dare to compare him to anybody else

No sorry does not come close. Clough for me is the greatest manager there has ever been. What he did with Derby and Forest was amazing given the squads he had when he took over. For Forest to win two consecutive European Cups in 1979 and 1980 was the pinnacle of his brilliant career. Should have been England manager. The managers today are buying success with the big clubs. Back in Cloughies day your Man U's and Liverpool's had bigger spending power to the rest of the league. Not by the same margins as now but it was still there. It would have been interesting to see what Warnock could have done with a decent side from the outset whether he could have improved when they were an already established side. The only manager in my day close to Clough was Shankley. Pretty much built Liverpool up from a side similar to ourselves to one of the best in the country.
That's no disrespect to Warnock though he has had a brilliant career.

I think he is the modern day cloughie but with a bit less arrogance
Full of confidence in his and his back room staffs ability to make us better and somehow bone hard mentally!!!!
Our mentality change is something to behold!
We are super tough!

Warnock gets the best out of players, rather like Cloughie did and I do think that Cloughie would have a lot of time and respect for Warnock.

What Clough did with the likes of Kenny Burns, Larry Lloyd and John Robertson was amazing.

Warnock is obviously not as controversial or arrogant but he is entertaining, nonetheless.

I just keep thinking of all the time and all the money we poured down the drain by appointing that complete charlatan Monk and the inexperienced Woodgate.

He's a cracking manager.

Just look at what NW has done to the whole community and fan base.

I think for the first time since Aitor (and probably even more so than when we had Aitor) all the fans are pulling in the same direction.

The players are full of confidence and everyone is on the same side and pulling in the same direction.

Would love for him to pen a contract extension.

Compared to the absolute tosh we've had in recent seasons, he literally is a breath of fresh air!

I genuinely look forward to all his press conferences and interviews.

Well put . However like illustrated by posters above , you can’t put a price on the impact NW has done to not only the club ( which is obvious by the performances ) but also the area of Teesside .

In this forsaken year of 2020 ( all aspects of life ) in my opinion he was been the biggest shining light we’ve all had to look up to .

If you’re reading this Neil , we’ll done buddy 👍

I just can’t wait for the first game whereby all the fans pack the stadium: maybe by late February 🤞🤞🤞🤞.
The noise and appreciation he’ll get will be a joy to behold!!!

Hes been in the game a lifetime which is quite a remarkable achievement, and hes been very successful in the grand scheme.
I've enjoyed his presence here and I've found its his man management that is his biggest asset, its transformed some of our players and therefore the team and its fortunes.
He has started a lot of decent careers for players and had some real good players over his time.

However, prior to him managing us I've met his teams many times in my time as Middlesbrough supporter, I used to detest his teams antics and the way they could turn the game into a stop start dour affair and him and his players could wind you up.

The last time when he managed Leeds, the game never got going and both him and Paddy Kenny wound us up to distraction.
There was a little poetic justice went Curtis Main brayed the winner in with minutes to go. It certainly got Paddy Kennys skates on taking goal kicks and picking the ball up, and I've never seen a manager so animated on the touch line those last few minutes, it showed his passion was still burning.

When He came here I didn't doubt his ability but perhaps his desire to put his heart into it as an old man, but hes proved me well wrong, he has still got all those strange little quirks and passion he had at Scarborough and Notts County.
Still plays that way he used to with them too, and its effective, Im not a purist in the sense of I love to see the ball passed to death like Karanka or Tony Mowbray over did it. I do like the ball in the penalty area often, after all thats why I go to football matches. His teams produce some direct football but not always and at times play some good football.

We know when we are onto something, and with any luck this lot will produce something under him.

Nothing more to add to a perfect post

This.

This was the reason I was against him managing us. I used to hate playing against his teams for that very reason. That said I don't think that THIS Boro team is as schooled in the "dark arts" as some of his previous charges. Perhaps that is because it is MY team that is wasting time with the silly goal kick routine where the two CBs drop into the box and then after a few seconds gesticulating trot up the pitch and Bettinelli blasts it long? We are all guilty of double standards on this and other football things (just last night, Watmore's first was a "great strike", Dhanda's strike was "unlucky")

Is he like Cloughie? No. His teams don't play in the same way, he has never had success at the highest level (and he has had chances to do so). He is however the right manager for us right now.

I do think this team of players is like none other Neil Warnock has managed. A lot of our players can really play football but what he’s doing is toughening them up when we don’t have the ball and making us extremely mentally tough.
I think Neil Warnock is learning a lot about himself and how he can inspire a group of players he probably wouldn’t of chosen because he normally has 4-5 rough uns in his line ups but he’s turned boro into a team that can actually play good football but are as tough as nails also
I think surprising Neil and his back room team?
