Is this letter to be delivered to every house in the country necessary?

Of course it’s necessary. It creates an illusion of activity, makes Johnson look like he’s actually in control of things and gives the impression that the Government is pursuing a plan to protect the public.

I’ve no doubt we’ll start spraying the streets with disinfectant next.

Waste if money - its cost us millions.

And it will have zero effect on proving people knew the lock down rules, unless they've sent every one recorded delivery and even then I doubt it.

It’s a complete waste of money, just Johnson appealing to the seemingly large element of the electorate who are somehow reassured by him.

He has a lot of people fooled unfortunately.

It not just a letter. It will have leaflets in too with advice on how to keep safe and how to get help with money etc.

Don’t think the posties will be too happy delivering millions of these. Hope the virus cannot be passed on the paper or envelope!

How come they 'only' cost £5.8 million when even if they're sent 2nd class it'd be 30,000,000 x £0.65 = £19,500,000 for postage plus envelopes, paper, printing and folding/inserting

a lot of money to feed Johnson's ego and bolster his brand with taxpayers' money

Royal mail leafleting is much less. This won't have personal address. A look on their site says £500 for 8000 houses. That would equate to £2.5m. The difference is presumably the cost of the leaflet itself.

Just broadcast it during telly breaks, between programmes, let him read it out. Job done
Or put it in the news - likely it will be out of date in a few days! The comms and marketing people will be getting paid a fortune.

In my opinion, I think its a total waste of money, with the country spending millions of pounds so far does the extra £5.8m need to be spent
