Is The Queen is Dead the best Smiths album?

It's definitely a grey area/personal choice thing. MJ I never had any interest in but all artists are flawed and you can't boycott everyone with a character fault. But for me the Smiths singer represents pure racism and I just can't stomach that.
We’ve talked about this before Harry. See I can’t stop comparing his actions to MJ’s and despite his stupid, attention-seeking opinions on certain subjects, he’s no paedophile.

Interesting. I’ve never read any of his racist comments, though I have read his book (which was great). I personally would not stop listening to an artists work because if things they had said or believe… mainly because I wouldn’t have much to listen to except the new seekers.

Back to the original question, it's a yes given the caveat, but I'd ask why Hatful can't be considered. I know the "why" but the fact the disclaimer is even needed is an admission that for the vast majority Hatful is the favourite.

Good article covering the very subject here...

Maybe the OP should just retitle to say “the Smiths best studio album” and remove any confusion.

Can I have Rank? Or the best of the Smiths party 1?

However, if memory serves, all the band members thought Strangeways was a much better album in their opinion.

Yep, both Morrissey and Marr have said that Strangeways is their favourite.

I actually like The Smiths, but the Troy Tate sessions version which pretty much got scrapped and appeared on bootlegs many years later. It's so raw and unpolished and really feels like a band finding their feet, but of course being bestowed with the genius they had.
