Is Swansea heading for a sell out?

C the C

My calculations:

Realistically our working capacity is 32k (I think Sunderland was sell out last season at 31,800). On Saturday I was say 31k capacity because of the away fans configuration (30k Boro plus 1k Swansea - capacities). The Club and Police like to have plenty of segregation e.g. at least 4 blocks of seats.

28k is the expected crowd tomorrow v 31k capacity is 90%. Not a sell out, but not along way off. Certainly completely different to many other Championship seasons @ Boro.

We have approximately 2,800 tickets for sale on the club website as now, with possibly a couple of hundred hospitality/corporate and maybe 200 in the family area. These are not on the stadium ticket plan. That leaves around 3,200 to sell, but some will go in the next 25 hours. If 700 of these were sold before KO it leaves 2,500 unsold on 30,000 home capacity about 92% capacity.

Some of the empty seats are paid for @ Boro. It only takes 5% of STs not to be able to get to a game and it creates over 1,000 empty seats based on 21k STs sold. MFC don't officially operate a match transferability scheme for STs unlike some other higher league English clubs.

If you are filling 80% of your seats in the champo then there is probably an argument to expand the stadium as you wouldn't meet demand for seats in the prem.
We do hit a ceiling with about 30k Boro fans its due to catchment area limitations. What does happen in the Premier is the level of away fans increases a lot - most Premier League clubs could sell 3,000 away tickets while in the Championship a typical away following at the Boro is about 800 to 1000.

We can sell more than 30k tickets to Boro fans; I just don't think we can do it week in, week out.

In the PL we can get more Boro fans in Boxing Day and when the bigger teams are in town. I wouldn't expect more to turn out for Bretford and Bournemouth.
So, do you have a stadium for your maximum possible attendance, or your likely minimum?

As I've said, I don't think targeting full houses for the sake of full houses is valuable, and I'm not concerned about what it looks like on television. I'd therefore lean towards having a stadium that we could fill 6-7 times a year in the PL.

On reflection, when you think about increases in Council tax, food , beer , everything really.
Then a £30 increase on season cards seems very fair ?

Ticket office was busy just now .
With Glorious weather all weekend, I think we will push towards 29k tomorrow

It was a £30 rise on very expensive tickets.
If we raised it to £430 from £400 then there wouldn't have been an issue.

Also the EB deadline and discount is another issue

BU - I didn't agree with this years rises it was not fair- I accept MFC is expensive for STs and walk ups, certainly for adults aged 22-64 (without free drinks) and children outside the family area.

FH - Our stadium is the right size for us, even in the Premier League. Last time in the PL there wasn't many complete sell outs. It is a rare occasion for Boro to sell more than 30k tickets to home fans we couldn't do it against Sunderland last season. I think there was close to 40k at Wembley in 2015, but many families made it a mini holiday or clan gatherings. 30K fans in a 450k catchment area is close to excellent.

Anything above 23/24k is a great crowd for Saturday by any historical comparison.
Criticizing a club that has the right capacity for the premiership (and has one of the biggest stadiums in the championship) for not filling it 100% is a bit daft.

I'd argue we've grown the fan base since then

Between GS's relation and AK's promotion, average attendance broke 20k once, in the promotion year.

Since AK's relegation, we've never averaged believe 20k, not counting COVID years, and the last 2 seasons have surpassed AKs promotion season.

We're not there yet, but I can see a situation where a larger RS is needed. As I say, empty seats during bad times doesn't concern me as much as it does some.

In my time as a ST holder we’ve been plenty of seasons without selling out. By my reckoning we only sold out 6 games in the last two season and that’s with a play off finish and cup run against Chelsea

We are only going to get the stadium 83% full against capacity according to some posters and there will be plenty of open spaces.

It is possible to have a stadium that leans towards that (basically a sell out for the regular CL sides, the first and last home games of the season, Boxing day and the Barcodes of course) yet still looked rammed most of the time for the goggle box?

Make the TV gantry side area that are below camera range one of the last to be released for sale and have "pop up" seats in a couple of rows up the top of the stands that lower down out of view when not in use. Job done.
Obviously the latter would cost more bunce to install and whether the outlay is actually worth it is up for debate. All I'm saying is, there is a way.

2,500 tickets left a few hundred have shifted in 3.5 hours.

I sometimes have to correct some others, especially over the top the negative posters and I admit I am sometimes wrong myself some on here never do that!

I can imagine some posters get frustrated with me, especially if I use figures and disagree with certain points. I can't ever remember been disrespectful certainly never deliberately so. I can reply quickly which possibly makes people think I am a bot.

I am not right wing definitely "No Pasaran!" I don't belong to any political party but once helped the Lib Dems in the 1987 election and managed to reduce the Tory majority in a South Coast constituency at the height of Thatcherism. Possibly because I can present slightly alternative views to the average FMTTM posters posters may think I am not one of "us". I do live in a rural location and have done for quite while and possibly a few years older than the average board member who I guess is around 45 to 50 which affect people's outlook.

Season tickets have been taken off sale. That should mean those tickets in the main blocks of the South Stand go on sale for match day purchase.
