Is Right Back a priority in January now?

... and if so who do we look at?

I havent seen anything official but by the sounds of it Smiths injury could be a bad one, and he could be out for some time.

We have cover in that position, but I would say we dont have an out and out RB in the squad anymore.

Dijksteel is capable playing there, and I think he would be my first choice at the moment, but you get the impression MC isnt that keen.

Rav has done very well there but I hope as the season goes on he can establish himself in the centre in his natural position. Plus I don't think he offers quite enough going forward (no criticism of the lad, its not his role).

Howson, for me only ever a stop gap or emergency RB.

Jones drops back and Forss comes in? But in current form you lose too much going forward bringing Jones back into defence.

Shift over one of the LB's, Engel or Bangura, or McNair, again not for me, I think we need an out and out RB.

I don't know what's happening with Smith? I read on here yesterday his name wasn't mentioned when Carrick talked about players who were unavailable for Norwich. So is his injury just a knock and reports of it being serious wrong?

Where have you heard that Smith's injury is a bad one? Wasn't mentioned in Carrick's presser yesterday, just that he took a knock and is touch and go for tonight.

I don't think we need to sign a RB particularly, we have McNair, VDB and Dijksteel who can all play there, plus Jones can also play RB in a pinch.

I'd be focussing on another striker and a central midfielder ideally

As I said noting official on Smith, going purely on the speculation of ruptured achilles etc mentioned here to be fair 😂 - if it was something like that, then for me we need to look into the market, potentially a loan.

I would hope its not as serious as a ruptured Achilles. They made the poor bloke walk around half way around the pitch after he had been subbed off.

Having (properly) ruptured both my Achilles playing sport the last two summers, there is no way he would have been able to walk even a couple of steps if that's what it was. It's surprisingly not painful but you can't walk for several weeks. So fortunately I doubt that's what he's done. Actually expect to see him back tonight, but that's pure guesswork on my part!

Numbers wise, i think we are fine there. Quality wise, its been an area we have needed a long term solution for a while. I don't' think we will bring a loan in or a stop gap, but if a long term target becomes available like Barlaser did last Jan for example, I think we will make a move.

The fact that Barlaser has done well in the last few games, means for the first time I would be happy for us to put Howson in as RB - at least temporarily. He would offer more going forward than VDB.

I agree with OP - that I would be happy to see Dijksteel in the team again, but get the impression that this is not actually going to happen.

It was speculation. It seems very rare for players to have scans the day after injuries. They wait for bruising to go down. We hear that time and again.
