Is ordering three meals on expenses acceptable.

Maybe she has struck a little deal with the restaurant, a pizza and a couple of bottles of wine but put it all down as food?

Absolutely not! Nor is it to just to cause a reaction.

We have 15 Americans on the project and 14 of them follow the rules exactly how they should be. I have been put in a position of having to accept the expenses or reject them and give my reasons for rejection. If it’s an obvious reason to reject then I’m quite happy to reject, however this is a tricky one
Tell her she's too fat and you're rejecting the expenses for her own good, you've got to be cruel to be kind sometimes

Fair enough mate. Just seemed a bit strange that you felt the need to say that she was an American lady. Some of my best friends are Americans and that whole 'ha ha ha, aren't all Americans fat?' thing really irritates them.

I can spend as much as I like on food on my expense account providing I don't expense alcohol. No one would ever question me providing I don't go over my per diem 250 per day. They certainly wouldn't question how many times I eat during a day.

I was once asked to pay back 3.50 for a pint of lager with my dinner a year after the claim was settled.

Yeah, maybe the American mention was unnecessary. However their eating habits are different to the Brits and they have a culture of taking leftovers home with them after a dinner. That’s more what I was getting at

Surely if she had 3, they can't all be main??? Ask her which one she ate 2nd as protocol dictates that is the main, the first is a starter and the 3rd a dessert.

Surely we've all had the famous three course meal that consists of, pizza for starter, steak and chips for main, lasagne for dessert.

BTW this obviously hasn't happened but it has passed a few minutes.

Yep, alcohol is also prohibited at my company. There was two occasions where she also bought Pringles and chocolate brownies but still stayed under the £50

In terms of keeping it under £50, does that mean you could go and buy £50 worth of meat from a butchers and that would be allowed?

Were they just for her or was she entertaining 2 other people each evening? If just for her then I’d probably reject, reason being that 3 meals for one person is unreasonable. Edited

when I was younger I was on 7 full meals per day - couldn’t fill me. Mind they were paid for out of my own pocket rather than expenses.

Get the receipts for each day. If each day comes to less than £50 then pay them. If a single day with 'all meals' added together comes to more than £50 then just pay the £50 and tell her to pay the rest.
I think you need to explain how your expenses system works.

Just for herself, all of her colleagues have the same deal so no need to buy for anyone else

You were only that hungry because you were 'entertaining' two other people each evening you randy old b***r.

My employer slipped up and never gave the guys the expense guidelines so In some respects we maybe screwed. This makes it unfair on our own people though who don’t have such a perk

Yes it would be allowed provided I ate it before travelling home. If I am away for a couple of weeks I sometimes get an apartment and cook my own food.

Infosys have a per diem policy to cover all expenses except hotel which is limited to 175 per night.

I can stick 15 coffees in a day on expenses and no one would question it even if I had a twix with every coffee.

Trying to limit how often and how much people eat seems a bit stingy.

I would maintain if you want me to work away you pay for everything from my excessive coffee habit to my porn habit.

Is this in the UK, if so where are these restaurants open ?
Staying in a hotel is usually room service only, otherwise are they take aways.
To order 3 meals sounds as though she may be entertaining others in her room or house.

Sounds very fishy to me

Well you are getting into terms and conditions now for different workers. Seems like you need to draw a line and inform all your colleagues of the company rules for expenses and give then a written copy. To make sure you do things properly you need to obtain receipts for proof of purchase before you authorise anything. Just to cover yourself.
Personally, I would only pay the actual costs up to a max of £50 for each evening meal. If someone wants something more expensive then they pay the difference.
