Is it June yet?

A couple of potentially telling things I took from the announcement yesterday:

The government (again) have been vague/far from transparent with the actual figures they're aiming for in the "four tests" (or perhaps I've just missed it) - we saw this tactic in the Autumn leading us into tiers/lockdown. Bad news then but arguably good news now (as it offers some "flex" in the system)?

I think everyone agrees that this lessening of restrictions is more cautious than previous, but is it deliberately too cautious? We know this gvt like a success story and could they be aiming to under-promise and over-deliver? Wouldn't surprise me.

Further example in the media this morning - leak about ending business support three weeks prior to certain sectors being reopened. Almost certain to be rode back on in next week's budget and therefore claimed as a "success", "look what we've done" etc.

You didn’t tell me anything? Maybe you can explain exactly what you “told” me.
And it’s not an opinion it’s a fact we are being cautious. You are falsely equating our caution to not wanting the lockdown to end. I’m not sure why now because both dooderooni and I have taken the time to explain it to you.
If you didn't understand it the first time we said it then I'm not explaining it again.

For the record I can't see the date in June becoming true anyways. It'll more than likely be winter this year or spring 2022 for loosening of social restrictions. Hybrids and variants and all that.

See your second paragraph proves you understand the situation yet you chew people like me out for also explaining it.
Do tell me, I’m honestly curious: what is it you believe you have “told” me. I honestly am starting to struggle to understand how your brain works but I would love to know what you think you have educated me in. I can’t make the same leaps that you do

This was mentioned in an interview yesterday, when asked on R4 if the dates could be moved forward due to a more than estimated drop in the virus levels and the answer was yes, followed by waffle. It was one of the advisors, Ferguson perhaps?

It's absolutely nailed on that BloJo is angling to be able to ease restrictions earlier than he said yesterday. Anything to spin things is the only way he knows how to work.

Stop turning good news into bad news.

Literally one page after accusing the board of doing it 😂

I guess you don’t actually know what you “told me”
That’s ok, we can assume you’ve retracted that statement
Oh I do.

Many on here said in June last year that lockdown wouldn't be ending anytime soon. Only to be told repeatedly that it's almost over and to be patient.

One wonders how much support lockdown would have gotten in parliament and the general public in March last year if they were upfront and honest and told everybody that it would in fact be lasting a minimum of 18 months.

Oh ok so you “told me” something based on absolutely no comment I had made, or at least something you incorrectly perceived I had said.
To be honest I suspected that would be the case. You have a habit of putting words in peoples mouths.
I’m glad you’ve confirmed it for me. I was worried I had said something wrong.

**** me! I have a habit of putting words in people's mouths? 😂 Incredible.
I'd look in the mirror if your recent personal attacks on @Hicktonpen10 are anything to go by. Enjoy the rest of your lockdown, just spare a thought for your Ocado delivery driver, the lads and lasses sorting out your Amazon orders and the folks keeping your lights on and your water running.

I think we all know things can change... Thats life.

But that doesnt mean we can't enjoy the moment.

Did you celebrate Boro winning the quarter final of the euro Cup or did you automatically think we'll get beat in the semi final so it doesn't really matter? I get the feeling some people on here probably did.
I look at anything on the news, in the papers that give me a glimmer of hope for the future
Its been a tragic decline with all the misery this awful pandemic has brought & continues to but when listening to the news last night it certainly give me a massive lift & again this morning, its what we've been longing to hear since the 23rd march 2020

No, but they need to know that it will only happen if the right conditions are met and that means continuing to follow the rules. If one date is put back then all the others are as well. I agree with festa that this seems a decent plan, but it is being spun all over the media and on here that it is what will happen and not what can happen if all the conditions are met. People need to know that.
We know boro fans can’t comprehend they way things are implied

I dont want to get sucked into any board rivalries that we appear to be seeing.

From a scientific perspective from someone who has managed risk in a variety of data driven industries. We are seeing a more text book way forward the the popularist political way we saw last year.

In a scientific way you make an action and look for the effect on the underlying population, in the way that the virus travels you need an observation period of 4 weeks to collect and observe the data, and a week to analyse and find a way forward. This differs from the two week dash we observed last year. This should give a clearer way forward, but may require tweaks to the opening up process if necessary.

The dates given are for guidance only, so that some of us in business have some sort of target to aim for, but none of it is written in stone. It has been destructive to business operations opening up one month to shut down the next in areas such as mine where the virus is very low.

The method used suggests to me that the scientists have had the upper hand to manage this properly this time, rather than the situation last year, where some were showing their frustrations in private. If successful it gives the politicians a chance to say that they did follow scientific advice - eventually.

We should be happy that we now have a route out for this country, with some indication of possible timescales if the data backs up the way forward.

It is also very difficult to have a series of data driven targets that should be aimed for. As most of us know data can be manipulated to whatever extent we want it to be. Also some of the models have a high margin of error. Therefore it is better to use a range of statistics and view this to see where the trends are taking us, allowing us to use levers at are disposal to drive down the effects of the virus.

Also remember that this is used to manage the virus in the UK, I hear reports of people rushing to book holidays abroad. Surely you would want to see how the other countries are managing their own situation first.

“Ocado delivery driver” even when I call you out on making things up about me you continue to make things up about me. Sorry harp on about it but I had that on a previous message board. People making things up about how I felt or what I did just in order to have an argument with me. It’s not as bad as that on here but on this thread you’ve gone back into it. I though calling you out on it would make you realise and apologise. I guess that was naive of me. Anyway just for clarity: I’m not going to stand for you making things up about me so just stop.

Apologize for what?
Everything you've posted there you are guilty of yourself. Don't dish it out to others if you don't expect it back in return.

Back on topic, @ChrisTheRed, roll on March 8th for the return of my eldest daughter's full time education and April 12th for a pint of beer, in a glass, from a hand pull 😀

Funny that, I remember pubs and restaurants opening in August, closing a few weeks before Christmas in some places and right up to Christmas in others.

Apologise for making things up about me. I guess I expect too much from you

I remember them been 'open' too, I work in one. They weren't really open properly though we're they? Curfews, no drink without food (so many stayed shut), rules of 6, etc.
