Is it June yet?

Yep. Think they've clearly said the restrictions won't be lifted before the dates mentioned haven't they? The dates are a best case scenario. It's not that difficult to understand.

Unless you have an agenda of course......

Ah so we just ignore it and continue to love in a depressive state then do we?

It has clearly been dragged out and we will have been in some form of lockdown for 6 of the last 7 months by then.

I'd understand if I was celebrating the pubs opening next month for beer Gardens.

I might as well go and kill myself now the way some people on here drag you down.

Stop being a drama queen Chris, or are you just doing this to be contrary?

I quote:

Stage four

No earlier than 21 June:
  • All legal limits on social contact will be removed
  • No legal limits on the number of people who can attend weddings, funerals and other life events. From April, the government will run pilots for events such as large weddings, festivals and work conferences. This will help to determine how measures such as enhanced testing might allow large groups to attend without social distancing
  • Nightclubs will be allowed to reopen
''No earlier" is there in plain sight. I'm desperate for some normality, but not at expense of us having to keep locking down because we haven't got infections under control. Do it right, however long it takes, so we don't have to do it a fourth or fifth time. Ignoring the "no earlier" bit is setting yourself up for disappointment.

I think we all know things can change... Thats life.

But that doesnt mean we can't enjoy the moment.

Did you celebrate Boro winning the quarter final of the euro Cup or did you automatically think we'll get beat in the semi final so it doesn't really matter? I get the feeling some people on here probably did.
The false equivalence in your last paragraph is doing nothing to dissuade me that you didn't actually understand yesterday's announcement. Maybe you should read about it again?

Stop being a drama queen Chris, or are you just doing this to be contrary?
I suspect it's the latter. It's his MO to start needless arguments with strangers on the Internet. I think it's time to treat him the way other trolls are treat.

I know exactly what was said.

I'm guessing you're both knocking on in years and don't get that people can still be happy even when caveats are in place.

If you don't like me or what I say or believe that this is an attempt at me trolling then either block me or report me to Rob and maybe you'd get your wish and have me removed or something.

I suspect you're not far off there ST.
If you read this forum objectively then no-one is enjoying the pandemic, but, as is the nature of the internet, anyone who expresses any note if caution is put into some sort of lockdown loving box.
I've done feck all other than go to work or stay home for the past year. I've worn a mask for at least 8 hours a day and used enough hand sanitizer to float a friggin battleship so I'm definitely ready for some normality. I also live with and look after two people who've been shielding so I haven't even been able to bend the rules even slightly for fear of potentially killing them. It's been a stressful twelve months for me as it has for everyone and I'm hoping against hope that this government finally get a grip of things and not repeat their mistakes that have cost so many lives and necessitated so many repeated steps backwards.

I think, for once, the government have got this about right. No raising expectations and subsequently backing themselves into a corner. Other than the "irreversible" thing (I'll cut them some slack and assume they mean irreversible assuming most things about the virus stay the same) no promises made they can't keep.

It's positive but tempered and the message that needs driving home now is that everyone needs to follow the rules so we can hit the best case scenario timescales.

Unfortunately Chris isn't going to be alone, no doubt social media will be full of people getting carried away or misinterpreting the message.

And yes, there is always the possibility that if things go better than they expect then who knows they might unexpectedly shorten the timetable, no-one is going to complain if that happens (as long as it's supported by the data etc). But by setting their stall out to say "no earlier" it manages expectations and keeps the pressure off for them to do so.

It's the excited kid on the day trip.

Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?
I feel sick.

And get that and understand that.

People just assume you're stupid in here.

You can still be looking forward and hoping for the best whilst accepting that it might not happen.

I just hope all those that understand the situation but are nevertheless excited about the dates (don’t take it personally chris) do not come back at a later date slagging, whining and demanding immediate normality if the goalposts are moved due to events beyond the control of the Government and scientists that may occur. Stuff like virus mutations, hospitalisations and avoidable deaths caused in part by ignorance and selfishness of some people who ignore the rules and extend the boundaries of what is permitted because the risk of being caught is less likely and they can smugly feel clever and that they know best.

As for the irreversible comment, Johnson clarified that and said that is the aim and hope, but he can not guarantee it.

Things happen that can't be accounted for.

If that happens then so be it but surely people are allowed to be happy at the prospect of normality without being dragged down as if what you are saying has already happened.

If there is another surge then I think we all know what will happen but right now I'll take the light relief and a lift from the depressive state I've found myself slipping in to.

Are people a really not wanting to see June's timetable come to fruition?

Certainly sounds like it in here 😂
No, but they need to know that it will only happen if the right conditions are met and that means continuing to follow the rules. If one date is put back then all the others are as well. I agree with festa that this seems a decent plan, but it is being spun all over the media and on here that it is what will happen and not what can happen if all the conditions are met. People need to know that.

Exactly. Unfortunately recent history and public behaviour has shown that some people take it as a given, some will hear June 21st but read February 23rd

No, again you seem to be misinterpreting the situation. We all want the lockdown to end. Certain people, like yourself wrongly confuse people being cautious and actually understanding what was said with not wanting it to happen.

I know @ChrisTheRed is deliberately misunderstanding so he can create an argument but please don't fall into the same trap. Don't see someone say something then assume it means they think something entirely different.

You dont "know" anything ST. You're being deliberately argumentative purely because it was me that made the post.

It's no wonder that people leave this board when it's marshalled by people like you.

I posted because I was rightfully happy at the prospect of having some kind of summer and I'd imagine I'm not the only one. Yet we have you and others that are immediately happy to destroy hope.

I know exactly what the words he used are and I know that things could change. Christ I could die tomorrow but I don't sit and ponder over it.

You are just someone that wants to argue but then has a go at people who may have the audacity to do that with you.

That's your opinion.

As I mentioned the other day, only this board can't wait to turn good news into bad news.

That's my opinion.

Oh and just for the record, on a separate note, we told you so.

You didn’t tell me anything? Maybe you can explain exactly what you “told” me.
And it’s not an opinion it’s a fact we are being cautious. You are falsely equating our caution to not wanting the lockdown to end. I’m not sure why now because both dooderooni and I have taken the time to explain it to you.
