Didnt know Darren Williams had his car smashed up 24 hours after scoring the winner against us

He tells an interesting story about Juninho earlier in the show. Peter Reid wanted him to man mark him

It very simple.

When Sunderland beat us its a derby.

When they lose to us, its not (to them).

The fact that for the last 40 years we've beaten them far more times than they've beaten us, there's a generation of mackems who've grown up refusing to admit its a derby.

Rest assured if Sunderland win on Sunday, they'll celebrate it as a derby win.

It's always a passionate game. I've heard their supporters on the train saying awful things and we've all heard awful chants. But our fans have probably done the same up there as it's usually a bad element that do stuff like that.

It's definitely a rivalry game obviously not as big as Sunderland Newcastle, but the fact that they go so out of the way to say they don't care shows that they do.

Well whether it’s a derby or not we currently occupy a play off spot they presumably want.

It's a North East derby. The same as Newcastle vs Sunderland is.

My interpretation of a REAL derby is two clubs from the same city. Liverpool vs Everton. Sheffield United vs Sheffield Wednesday. Manchester United vs Manchester City.

Also, Sunderland don't see it like any other game at all. That's why they sing "we hate Borra! we hate Borra!" every time we play them.

They definitely dislike/hate/have stronger feeling towards the Newcastle game, but Sunderland vs Boro is and always has been a massive rivalry/grudge match. It's 20 minutes down the road.

Derbies are only really such important games to those who have people in their life that support the other team. You know, knobheads. I used to live in Newcastle. I know good Geordies and bad ones. I used to hate when we'd lose and I'd have to go into work with them. Now i dont live in Newcastle, I dont care about Newcastle. I dont know any Mackems, so I dont care that much about our matches. They're not derbies to me.

I started following Boro in the 70s and back then it was an intense rivalry both on and off the field.

As I type this I feel for me things have changed and while thinking about this earlier in the week I concluded that the most important thing was to keep the run going and get the three points.

I thought the Millwall game last week was more important as it had the potential to be banana skin and derail the forward progress, mostly as it was a home game.

Sunday for me is all about the three points and another step forward. That's what Sunderland are this season, just another step upwards.

I did as I was in a taxi in the boro a few weeks later and the driver was his uncle.

No one condones that but he was an idiot to do what he did and he knew exactly what it meant. He basically relegated his home town and took the p….

They dont class it as a Derby, its just the same as any other game..............

Yet everyone of their fans i've asked has not been able to answer why if that's the case, are they on for their biggest gate of the season, for a game that's on a Sunday 12noon (possibly the worst time for a game) and live on TV.
