Is Farage dangerous or incompetent?

I really want Count Binface to win this and if this is handled right it's within the realms of possibility.

The fallout for Reform and Farage would be hilarious although I expect he would weasel out of it if it was looking likely for a Binface clear win and no doubt blame 'the establishment' for having it out for him.

Whatever sees the back of the odious little twerp
How can he weasel out of it if it was looking like he was going to lose? It’s done. He is not at present a Member of Parliament. He can’t become one again unless he wins the election.

Dont lets think the demise of Farage as an MP will be a political relief. His involvement in the far-right will strengthen that movement, cement the base, and give credibility for another gutter-snipe to take his place.
I think the point with Farage is that the right wing media including the BBC have been pushing him forward as their leader, largely because they know the Tories are probably unelectable for the next election or two. They have no other ‘popular’ figure to harvest the right wing and natural Tory vote enough to win an election,

They don’t want Labour or any left leaning government to gain a foothold so on the basis of 25% polling they have pushed this ‘inevitability’ agenda that Nigel is the next PM. Plenty have fallen for it as well, you only have to read this forum to see that.

But Nigel has massive skeletons which are being found, his reputation for integrity is finished and he is now being completely ridiculed and humiliated for resigning and standing again, he’s done.

So another gutter snipe will pop up but it will take them years to achieve the talisman status of Farage with the racists.

He's now got to get out there and try and convince reform voters to turn out and vote for him in a one horse race.

A low turnout would be embarrassing (but very likely)

Binface getting anywhere near him would be embarrassing.

But having to campaign for a seat no-one credible is contesting is embarrassing.

Left to their own devices how many people, reform voters or otherwise, could be arsed turning out to vote in a one horse race? If you think he's guaranteed to win anyway, what's the point?

I can see quite a lot turning out to vote "against" reform though.

It's going to be very entertaining watching him try to find the right line to take.

"Please turn out and vote for me. But not because I'm worried a comedy candidate might make me look bad. But if you don't a comedy candidate might make me look bad".
Some excellent points. Farage will have to campaign and that in itself is embarrassing.

There will be a tiny turnout. Again embarrassing.

There may well be a large number of spoiled ballots.

It's just a lose lose for farage but one he will have to go through.

BBC Right Wing. You must be joking. It’s packed full of Guardian readers.

Not much point biting but the BBC is a large organisation. The majority may well be Guardian readers but the Top Brass and the Political Broadcasting section are very much right wing.

Cameron packed the BBC to the rafters with people who don't want a licence fee based national broadcaster and for whatever reason Starmer hasn't done much about it.

Maybe Burnham will but I won't be holding my breath.

I am struggling to understand what Farage was trying to gain from forcing a by-election. It does seem to have been from him having a hissy fit.

He is now going to get weeks of questions about his finances that he cannot dodge and when he wins the investigation will just continue.

I know he is framing it as him v 'The Establishment', but I've read that by resigning as an MP it will drop any investigation by the Parliamentary Standards Committee. Then if re-elected the investigation can't begin again as they can only investigate in the previous 12 months from when a person becomes an MP. Though looking at the standards a complaint can be reviewed up to 4 years after the event. So that assumption of 12 months may not be strictly true, and more Chinese whispers.

I've not been able to find a definitive answer on this, so happy to be corrected.

The investigation is only suspended, it will start again if he is re-elected, they can also continue it if he's not, it's just not likely they would.

Bin face was on Newsnight last night around a table serious politicians who had to talk with him - it was humourous but I thought how low have we dropped with regard politics in the UK, people outside the UK must be really laughing at us.

Not at all. Rather this than the likes of Boris Johnson and Farage lying with impunity and taking the general public for fools.

We were lower when our system allowed people to be conned into voting repeatedly against their best interests. Misogynists, racists, people claiming to be angels etc being voted en mass into run councils was the low point.

A character, however ridiculous, shining a light on how pathetically self centred some of these grifters are is an upturn. If that's what it takes, that's what it takes.

You got a link to the reading habits of bbc employees? Or did you just make it up

I don't have any kind of link but I do know that virtually every Reform supporter than I know and also any rampant RWNJ's all shun the BBC as a leftie, woke, liberal MSM outlet.

It seems that the left accuse it of being right and the right accuse it of being left. Perhaps the BBC in the most parts is just impartial then but most will just see what they want to see, like fouls in a match involving Argenina.

As mentioned above, Cameron stuffed the management positions with Tories and the Politics is full of right-wingers.

The entertainment side might be much more left wing but they don't have as much to do with driving the news cycle.
