The most recent parallel precedent, when David Davis pulled the same stunt, suggests otherwise. And it’s a less direct but more recent parallel, but Simons’s resignation had nothing to do with the interests of his constituents or his duties as an MP either.

There’s an obscure precedent from the first half of the 19th century that suggests a refusal might be legal. It’s never happened since. That sounds like the sort of argument Boris Johnson used to justify his prorogation. It might even have had the same outcome (decisions of the Chancellor are justiciable). And it would certainly have made the government looked bad and played into the Farage narrative. Whereas this makes him look an idiot.

I really want Count Binface to win this and if this is handled right it's within the realms of possibility.

The fallout for Reform and Farage would be hilarious although I expect he would weasel out of it if it was looking likely for a Binface clear win and no doubt blame 'the establishment' for having it out for him.
