Is English Rugby Union an elitist sport?

Yeah I don’t think people can put that one on rugby. England hospitality at Wembley is also eye watering. Premier league access is also far more accessible to rugby fans too. I have a £199 season ticket that gives me access to all normal season home games: league, cup AND Europe. Plus free entry to watch the women’s side when they play there. I can’t imagine you getting as good a deal as that at Tottenham or Chelsea
Which club to you support? Just out of interest

It's been mentioned but I suppose it depends on the location too. I would imagine plenty of state school kids play the game in Exeter. Likewise Gloucester, Bath and Northampton.

There's probably loads of great players in the North West and Yorkshire too. They all just play league instead.
Sure, but from what I can gather in here it doesn't seem to be played in the local area.

Certainly not to the exact that football is. My home town has a great rugby union set up, but it doesn't compete against football. There's lots more organised football played.

Started playing at the age of 6 in school rugby in the Welsh valleys. It's the sport the the best athletes get groomed into. Important for a country with a small population.

From 15 to 18 there was a divergance of rugby experience. Wales youth (rugby club based) were a very different kettle of fish to Wales secondary schools (grammar schools). But at 18 they'd blend back together in club rugby. It was a game for people from all backgrounds and abilities with Sunday pub games and village rugby the alternative to the 20 top club sides in Wales.

The biggest difference I found coming to play in England was the clubs would have a first to, sometimes, a fifth team. Every one played for the first team in Wales, although some first teams were better than others!!!
I was born in south wales and it's a religion there just as football is up here. It's good to have a fellow Welsh boro fan ha!

Nice one. I've always liked Quins. They were a great side a few years ago.
Were! Lol. We’ve properly lost our way lately. Gustard should have been a decent coach but it just didn’t work out. We currently have a decent first XV but the squad is appear thin. We aren’t the richest club

The title winning side was brilliant. Gustard left under a cloud for certain. Strange situation for all.

That was a hell of a day. We all walked back across the zebra crossing from Twickenham to celebrate at the Stoop. The players came out to address the crowd, very inebriated. Nick Easter especially as I recall. It was a good reward, I start going to matches the year they got promoted back into the league so it was amazing. It felt like it was the final redemption for bl***gate. Especially with Williams scoring

Some great players in that Quins side, Nick Easter being one. Ugo Monye was my favourite mind.

You think a quarter of an England international is hospitality?
I've only been to Twickenham in hospitality, I was told that was the case when I inquired as to the numbers involved.

Not only are there numerous suites throughout the ground there's a field lines with marquees providing the same as you walk towards the ground from Whitton.

I think you’ve been misled. I would out great money on there being more club Wembley tickets at a football international than hospitality at a rugby international. I reckon ticket prices costs the same as well. And domestically as I have already demonstrated you pay much less for season tickets and get more tournaments . Oh and the Marques are just beer tents and food places and the like. Unless you’re counting the O2 lounge as hospitality too

The marquees I was talking about are hospitality, here's a link to the ticket sales for one the areas.

I've been to 3 games at Twickenham all hospitality and sat in three different parts of the ground, different levels in two different stands. I've only once been in hospitality at s football match, at Highfield Road in the 90s, no comparison.

I'd like to know the official numbers for Wembley and Twickenham to compare.

I'm not sure whether I was misled or not, show me the figures.

When did England play at Highfield road?

I’m certain if you saw how many club wembley tickets there are at internationals you wouldn’t be too bothered by Twickenham

Just checked. Not counting executive boxes and other hospitality packages Wembley has 17000 club Wembley seats alone. So no, in regard to hospitality, you can’t say rugby is elitist in England. A similar football stadium for a similar game has comparable hospitality
