Yeah but he wants to live on Teesside and play for Boro. If that can’t happen he will go elsewhere i would imagine rather than sit on his wages at Burnley

You are confusing cash flow with accounting. Of course MFC wants to get the best deal possible, but once the transfer is signed MFC must show the full liability in the accounts. When and how it pays the transfer fee will be detailed in the contract. Burnley will probably factor the debt anyway, so it's just between MFC and a bank somewhere. Delaying payment over months or years doesn't materially affect Boro's P&L nor its FFP status.2.
