Is anyone still arguing that Lumley is not a liability?

I was wondering who would revel in the mistake he made today and this is a pretty predictable thread.

He has talent, that's impossible to argue, but he makes too many mistakes, which seems to be the story of his career really.
what talent is that like,as its certainly not as a goalie, its just banother to add to his collection, glad when we see the back of him

Very poor attempt to save a routine effort , he needs dropping .
Crooks also well off the pace since he got his song , ‘ scores belters all the time ‘ should be changed to
‘ scores belters once in a while ‘
I hope he gets his form back soon because he is key to what we do .We need his goals , because without them we are shot shy .
Sporar has gone from no1 striker to no 5 ?
He was also key to what we do so disappointing to see him out of the managers thoughts atm ,

Who TF was he berating for his abject failure today?
I finalised my view of him with those pens against United. He could still be there now trying to save one. His reactions are so slow. You would think he was 9ft tall given how slow he is to get down.
Roy Keane confirmed it for me with his comment that both keepers were atrocious. Chronically abysmal was how I described him that night.

I've defended him over and over again this season but lately he's making mistake after mistake and this is why he was never number one at QPR when they were entrenched in relegation battles.

A long with a new set of strikers we are in desperate need of a keeper that can actually save something

I've got to say it was terrible from him. He should be diving and getting two hands on the ball there. It should have been a routine save.

Can only think the late run from Honeyman may have put him off slightly but it's still no excuse.

Lately???

I don’t think people are revelling in his mistakes. But if he’s going to keep making them, are we not allowed to mention it?
Of course, it was a mistake, one of far too many he's made, but equally some people are dying to be proved "right", whatever they define that as.

Not just Lumley, but there's other players this season, previous seasons and no doubt next season too.

Johnny Ingbar genuine question - what does he have talent for?
He's had some great games and is capable of playing at the right level, but his game is littered with too many mistakes.

As a comparator Bettinelli was, in my opinion, just a poor goalkeeper - I didn't see anything from him that suggested he was ever going to be good enough and that's how it proved.

Lumley can play, that's a fact, but he's far too inconsistent. We've seen it here and thats how the fans of his previous club see him; decent enough, and then along comes a mistake.

He has talent, he is playing at a very high standard of football.

The issue is that his mistakes outweigh his assets. He has got away with a lot this season.

The only saving grace if he is dropped is that he can’t drop a clanger in the playoff games if we make them.

I've defended him myself at times, from where I was sat didn't put the blame on him for the goal, but having just seen the replay, that was or should have been a easy save to make.

Talent in what area? He’s not bad with his feet that’s about it.

“great games” is a massive stretch and you know that. He’s certainly cost us more points than he’s saved us, and that’s before you factor in the catalogue of mistakes we’ve gotten away with it. Of course today’s performance shouldn’t be overshadowed his mistake, we were poor all over the park. However, we’re carrying a keeper that often can’t get the basics right. Can’t fathom why you cant understand the criticism levelled at him.

Criticism is fair enough. Awful goal to concede today. But we are stuck with him, Daniels clearly can’t play the sweeper keeper role Wilder wants and we don’t know if Sol Brynn can, who was simply brought back as third choice in case we got an injury.

However because we’re likely stuck with Lumley, and even though criticism is fair enough, I still don’t think abusing and booing him is going to help us. Do people think that will make him play better?

I can understand the criticism, but I think in some cases people have a binary view without any balance.

Against Spurs, for example, he had an excellent game, make some match winning saves and was pretty much faultless. Thats shows he can do it, but his talent is meaningless if it's littered with so many mistakes, which it seems to be.

I keep using Bettinelli as a comparator, a keeper who I couldn't see anything in, he never once showed anything for us and was just plainly lacking in pretty much every area, apart from his kicking.

With Lumley I do see the talent, but given how frequently he makes mistakes it's ultimately a moot point.

It's a bit like Harry Maguire, his games is punctuated with too many mistakes, but he's got bags of talent. I suspect in his case its a temporary issue, but the comparison stands nevertheless.

He’s a poor keeper end of

I’ve been saying this long before the turn of the year but I’m resigned to him starting now.

Lumley has had a shocker for the goal, cannot defend him, but for the preceeding 73 minutes we have made some terrible decision when in possession in good areas. What could be just as decisive in our promo bid is our lack of a actual goal scorer
