Ironopolis Club closing....

"Boro v Reading doors open at 10.30. This will be the last match we will be open for. Sadly we have had to make the difficult decision to close. Covid has had a huge effect on us. Functions cancelling and people not coming out. A massive thanks to all the people who supported us over the last nine years. Jackie. Xx"

That is truly the end of an era.

I use to go there between Christmas and New Year with my uncles for a game of snooker. It is some years since I have been in.

I was also supposed to box there one night but the opponent never turned up.

Part of my childhood. 3 of my Uncles used to drink there and paid for me and my oldest sister to go on the club trip for years. Some of my cousin's who have moved away, always met up with each other and with their brother's who still lived here before going to 3 or 4 games a year. Another Teesside landmark lost.

We will have to take Dr Browns back. Not many options close by and those that are, are normally rammed on match day. Plus the fan zone is too small

Use it or lose it. Did it do well on non match days? A massive shame for all those involved with the place.

Sad, I booked my 60th in there but had to cancel it due to restrictions

It was the only place to hold my 60th, sad that didnt go ahead

I really thought this was just a baseless rumour that was doing the rounds again...can't believe it's actually true :(

Gutted. Hadn’t been in this season as we’ve been staying outside in the fanzone. Covid and that. Ive messaged my pal and going here tomorrow for one last time.

I've not been in there, coming from the civilised side of the river, but this saddens me and I can see the same happening across the area.

Support your club, not just on match day.
