Ipswich agree fee for Hackney, apparently

We’ve signed Owen Foster, Archie Baptiste, Jack Daley, Jayden Carbon, Alfie Jones, Abdoulaye Kante.. Callum Brittain is on his way. Sounds very much like there’s more on the way.. the window doesn’t shut until September 1st.

Two of which are first team players likely to replace two leaving, which would leave us exactly where we were. Wow. Take my £620.

No, it doesn’t. But the season starts well before then. So why the delay? Do these players not need a pre-season? Let’s continue to repeat the ***** starts we’ve had over the last few seasons eh? What can go wrong?!

Our internet fanbase have completely lost the plot.. entranced by pie eyed pipers spouting utter bullshyt. There is no magic wand.. players retuning from serious long term injuries will not suddenly churn out 40 games a season. The hysterics over Carrick.. disappointing that we didn’t make the playoffs again.. but that does not mean that ANY manager can come in and click their fingers and suddenly perform miracles.. injured players will not be reborn, players leaving will not suddenly be replaced by a troop of 21 year old wonderkids from the academy that we have somehow kept under wraps.

That’s just more Newy word vomit.

Transfers take time.. yes we need to bring in players.. yes we do need to sell players to bring them in. Folks are far too comfortable believing every single piece off guff that gets churned out.. from links to fees to rumours.

We’ve got no money, Steve Gibson is spending the Latte Lath money on a spaceship.. jeezus man! Get a grip.

We’ve sold players. A lot of them. Akpom, Rogers, Coburn, Jones, Matthews, Latte Lath… plus we have the add-on’s from Spence. Where’s that money gone then? Because that’s £30+million of financial wiggle room we seem unwilling to spend. We HAVE to sell Hackney to spend?

b***ks. I’m surprised you’re swallowing it. If MSF were saying this you’d have your pitchfork out.

7. All other clubs are in the same position as us.. no one is dusting themselves down and ready to go full pelt on the league.. whatever league they are in.

And yet, all bar one of them are charging less than us for the pleasure/torture of watching it.

Honestly you lot are mental. Edwards comes in, smiles at the camera and suddenly everything is ok! Suddenly Silvera is just waiting to fit into the right system! It was Graeme Carrick & Woodgate that was the problem!

You can stick your head in the sand and pretend everything is rosy. I can’t. I’m worried we’re sleepwalking towards a relegation into a league I genuinely think we’d struggle to get out of.

I am easily pleased (as i have made clear), but I am also very unemotional when analysing games I watch.

The stats and the eye test to me had us consistently in almost every game last year. More chances in a majority, but major flaws in finishing and defensive errors cost us the points needed to get in the playoffs in a season with a lot of parity.

We also played worse as the season went on - I would have been OK keeping Carrick, but he really struggled to find his best side after January.

I'm excited by building on the passing approach while being slightly more direct.

I think we have a top young striker in Conway (only 22), three young top attacking midfielders in Azaz, Whittaker, and McGree. Morris I think can be one of the best midfielders in this league. And some solid championship defenders - that might have a better structure.

I always liked Silvera more than most, and I actually think he is more suited to the role he has played in pre-season.

Our team is not perfect - but I do not expect it to be. Good basis for a top half team that could challenge if everything falls right.

Now it is time for bed - with my half full cup of Horlicks.

Edwards said we were short of several first 11 players, particularly in wide areas. He also said there was not enough competition for many positions. He indirectly did not say things were OK at present and I don't think he expects fans to say things are fine. He just asked for fans to fully back the Boro players when they give 100% effort.

Make complete sense..
The fan base at boro are far from daft ...
It appreciates work ethic and effort above all else...
It's why Mustoe, Boateng, Friend, Mowbray are held in 'next level ' regard.

If Edwards can get players busting a gut, competing every header , not avoiding the hard yards without the ball etc ...

He's got nothing to worry about

Pretty much this..

The 1986/87 team had some players in it that would go on to bigger and better things but we didnt know it at the time. What we did know that is was a small squad with a young average age that got the attitude spot on, Rioch was the right man at the right time too.

It's not fair to compare the current squad or situation to that, but its a demonstration of what can be done if you get the attitude and dressing room bang on...if everyone on and off the pitch pulls together...

Now...we just need to find a Bernie Slaven type going for peanuts...

I feel like this is a backs to the wall Boro moment...that's not always a bad thing for this club..let's see eh and give it a chance..we will keep punching away somehow.

The 1986 team had some quality for a Division 3 (1) side - Pally, Cooper and Ripley all future full England Internationals Pears and Mogga England B internationals, Slaven - Republic of Ireland International in the World Cup finals knock out stage. Kernaghan another future ROI international.

I imagine if any premier league team were planning on coming in for him, his agent will know about it and they’ll drag the Ipswich decision out for as long as possible unless he’s been given an ultimatum by us / Ipswich.

Hopefully the Brittain signing isn’t dependant on Hackney which I don’t think it will be.

You’d have to hope the quoted fee is inaccurate otherwise it seems very low and almost a sign of desperation. Southampton just rejected £27m from Dibling. We should be aiming this high with Hackney.

Hackney is arguably the best midfielder in the championship, but if Ipswich are the best offer on the table and it means we get our targets in key positions we have identified...then reluctantly we have to accept it.

The Gazette have said the Brittain deal is not dependent on Hackney.

I am surpised no Premier teams have come in for Hackney, now they know our price.

The 86/87 side represented a club that had just gone bust and been reformed.
There is no comparison and let's not pretend we are at a similar moment in time.

What Rioch and those young lads did under Henderson's leadership was immense. The club had no options, no resources and no choices to make.

Still say they were the best years for me as a Bori fan, even though I 'm lucky enough to have lived thru' Big Jack's team, John Neal's, Robson/McClaren etc.
The bond between team and fans was incredible and very, very rare.

We were so lucky that the bunch of players we were left with was that particular bunch. And the manager was that particular manager.
