Ipswich agree fee for Hackney, apparently

Let him go.
Let the lad take a chance on getting to a higher level and give himself and his family financial security.
Wish him all the best and tell him he will always be welcome through our door.
Use the money to invest in several players without having to burden Uncle Steve any more and create some positive energy as we go into the season.

Stop the moaning ffs
Yeh I’m pretty much agree completely with your statement 👌

Each to their own.
But Burgzorg is anything but the real deal.
Too many fans write off players far too early. He’s is the player that fans expected Morgan Rogers to be.. and they moaned about him anorl!

I’m not sure if many fans have noted the output of our strikers over the years.. but Burgzorg scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists last season. I don’t think we saw the best of him when he was played on the right tbh.

David Nugent was our top scorer in 2015/16 with 8 goals!

Let’s have a look at our golden premier league years.. we were our top scorers?

08/09 Tuncay 7
03/04 Nemeth 9
02/03 Maccarone 9
01/02 Bokic 8
95/96 Barmby 7

So are we just bad at recruiting then?
Maybe we have become good at recruiting Scrug and we are just not caving in to demands any longer. I would say good or bad at recruiting is more plausible than there being no money.
The reality for me is that not every penny we earn is going to go on new players. The age of 'an undisclosed fee' means we end up making stuff up or believing rumpurs. I would like to see that stopped by the FA for fan transparency. The club has to be self-sustaining. SG cannot bankroll forever.

People conveniently forget that Delano was very good for a period of about 10 games. Playing from the left he was strong, could hold up the ball, turn his marker and get up the pitch.

Carrick then bizarrely changed his position and he wasn’t the same. He hasn’t got the technique to shoot across goal. That showed against Leeds when he twice dragged his shot. From the left on the in step is his style. Carrick took that away.

So which is it?

Because you called me out for suggesting there’s no money, then suggested there’s no money…

I’m confused.

Yeah much better from that side tbh. Finishing lets him down when he gets in good positions especially when he's off the opposite side like you say.

I am ok with him staying as a squad player but if we can replace him with better then great. Let's see.

Agree. He isn’t a player we would take to the Premier League, but as an option in the Championship he’s fine. Very frustrating at times, but the gift a manager has is recognising when he’s on it. Use him more then until his levels drop again.

The club hasn't said that. Internet rumours have said it
Our targets will change depending on how much cash we have. If Hackney goes then we’ll obviously need a replacement for him, but our other targets could change. That’s why there hasn’t been much activity.

The lack of activity also suggests it.
We’ve signed Owen Foster, Archie Baptiste, Jack Daley, Jayden Carbon, Alfie Jones, Abdoulaye Kante.. Callum Brittain is on his way. Sounds very much like there’s more on the way.. the window doesn’t shut until September 1st.

Our internet fanbase have completely lost the plot.. entranced by pie eyed pipers spouting utter bullshyt. There is no magic wand.. players retuning from serious long term injuries will not suddenly churn out 40 games a season. The hysterics over Carrick.. disappointing that we didn’t make the playoffs again.. but that does not mean that ANY manager can come in and click their fingers and suddenly perform miracles.. injured players will not be reborn, players leaving will not suddenly be replaced by a troop of 21 year old wonderkids from the academy that we have somehow kept under wraps.

Transfers take time.. yes we need to bring in players.. yes we do need to sell players to bring them in. Folks are far too comfortable believing every single piece off guff that gets churned out.. from links to fees to rumours.

We’ve got no money, Steve Gibson is spending the Latte Lath money on a spaceship.. jeezus man! Get a grip.

1. We need to improve the squad
2. We need to identify players who can
3. We need to be able to afford them
4. We need to have players/clubs agree
5. We need to sell players to fund this
6. We need to have players/clubs agree
7. All other clubs are in the same position as us.. no one is dusting themselves down and ready to go full pelt on the league.. whatever league they are in.

There’s no magic wand, there’s no switch to throw or button to press that says complete squad, ready for promotion.

It’s good to hear a dose of sanity! Really good post!

The truth is we have brought in two first team players for somewhere between 4 and 5 million.

Are looking at an extra 2.5 - 3.5million for brittain. I think we hoped Blackburn would fold lower.

Also brought in 4 u21 players.

Not massively different to a number of other non-parachute clubs in the league. We already have quite a big squad (even if some fans think they are all useless). Some have spent 10-12 million.

It's not like our income is massively higher than other clubs.

I am of the view the club is trying to make sure it is making the right purchases.

More than likely we don’t know what our budget is.

If we don’t sell azaz, rav and Hackney then we have 10m to sign 5 players and are shopping in Asda.

Sell Hackney and we have 20m+ to sign 6 players and are shopping in Sainsbury’s.

We don’t to buy 4 players from Asda, fill all our squad places and under invest and be left with the Hackney money that we can’t really spend

It's not only not knowing the budget.

But not knowing what exactly we need.

We have clearly decided we needed a new cb, rb, and cm. Independent on outgoings. Jones, Brittain and Kante Independent of sales.

Kante is a player that would be happy if he starts and probably happy as a back-up/alternative option.

We can't go spending money on a new star midfielder if we still have Hackney. Etc.

If we sell Hackney, we can probably look at a new attacker to start/ rotate with Conway, Azaz, McGree, Whittaker rather than a young project/backup.

I made no such suggestion at all.
I believe we are strongly negotiating to get possible deal which is a reflection of the reality that we have money to spend just not the vast sums that raking in from previous player sales may lead the casual observer to assume.
