Invasion of Whitby

Sunny weather - end of Winter - relaxing of lockdown after 8 weeks housebound - lots of people with more free time - cheap petrol

It all adds up to visitors pouring into Whitby soon to me.

Or am I wrong?

Quite a few seasided resorts have closed their car parks (I know Whitley Bay has) so your trip to the seaside might be a nice drive out but you may have trouble stopping!

And as pointed out no pubs, cafes, shops or restaurants open.

surely anyone in their right mind would want to go to Seaton or somewhere with a vast open area where they could keep away from people?

Every time you see or read a clip about the resorts business people , they pour scorn on the conurbation of Teesside and it’s folk . Of course we have our proportion of dik heads ( where hasn’t ) but be careful about biting the hand that feedeth thou .
If they’re worried about safety just batten down their hatches and let proprietors make a balanced decision within remits of acceptable practise .
We will after all go home and take our horrid germs with us .Oh that is after emptying our pockets into their tills.

Ps when the magpie opens it can contribute enough tax from its income into supporting at least a month of national debt .

Fish and Chip shops can open for takeaways. One near me has been open since April 27th only one in at a time leaves a big Q down the street.

A lot of shops can open if they sell food at all or newspapers etc

Beaches are open and cliff top walks etc, its not WW2.

Car Parks are often full in Whitby anyway.

I would go to a remote spot, but not the town of Whitby. If I found anywhere crowded I would move on.

Read a report today about bikers heading out to Hawes. Pubs and toilets closed and residents complaining of people p***ing against the car park wall.

Hate to say it but Whitley Bay car parks have reopened, as have the chip shops. I'll be staying at Cullercoats.

We’re so sorry not to be able to welcome you at the moment but now is not the right time.
It’s important we keep you and our local communities’safe. Many of our businesses remain closed in line with government guidelines. Our public toilets and car parks are also closed and there is no lifeguard cover on our beaches.

A very polite way of saying f**k off !

Blockading entrances to car parks is a bit mean, where I live the council have made all council car parks free. I suppose in Whitby they are frightened of being invaded by virus carrying outsiders.

Young (and very responsible) woman across the road took her two to Saltburn today, fish and chips while they were there. Very quiet she reported.
