Internet provider recommendations

Any Recommendation for internet only contracts?
About to move in and thought we wont bother with a land line, which Co offers the best service?
Cheers

It’s just mostly for our TV, mobile phone, iPad and Lap-top, in that priority.
We’re both retired and don’t do any on line gaming or such.

Look on Money Saving Expert for the latest deals and customer rating etc
I don't think anyone does a deal without a landline these days. Just get a deal without any calls included and don't plug a phone in.

I just got Virgin 200 for £28 a month, no phone, no connection fee for 18 months and a £75 Amazon gift card after 6 months by searching for deals... broadbandchoices.co.uk

It's definitely not 'simple' picking a new provider. Clearly some that appear cheap will probably be lacking in download speeds or data caps.

I'm with sky. It's probably more as I get tv and phone with them. I recently went pay as you go on the phone as I never use it.

The broadband is pretty decent and hardly ever drops out. I swapped over from Sky Fibre unlimited to super fast. I don't see any difference other than a name change.

I use a whopping 500-700GB a month (downloads/Netflix/Amazon etc). I say 'whopping' but don't know if that's a lot? So many cheap looking deals wouldn't suit. I mean some have 20-50GB caps😕

If you have kids or an adult gamer then many games can be 50-100GB to download.

I guess you get what you pay for. Yet also have to take into account what you are using it for. If only for browsing and not streaming/gaming etc then you'd probably get a deal around or under £15 a month. I'd say nearer £30 for unlimited.

I've found Now Broadband to be good. As mentioned above, try Money Saving Expert, or U-Switch. It's a good time to be doing it as there are a few 'Black Friday' deals about.

In my neighborhood they've got something called Community Fibre which is a tie-in with the local authority. No good if you haven't got it, I know, but it's an example of someone offering a 'no landline' deal, sought by young people. I expect it will be more widely available in time.

I'm not an expert but from what I understand you can split providers into two categories, Virgin and the rest, as Virgin use different connectivity.

So speeds from all the non Virgin providers will be the same and when comparing deals you need to look at other benefits.

Virgin tend to favour new customers in terms of prices, so bear it in mind because I'd you want to switch back to a non Virgin supplier this will potentially take longer than, for example, Sky to Talk Talk.

Also, I'd you have a big house, or an old one with particularly thick walls, you may want to go with a provider with a better router.

It's a bit more complicated now that FTTP is on the rise and altnets are building their own networks. So you might get virgin which can be fast. Then there is openreach FTTC which is what most providers offer, but then there is FTTP which is again sold by other providers and in this area you will start to see YouFibre in Stockton and CityFibre in Middlesbrough offering high speed connections but depends when they get round to your area

YouFibre in stockton will be £30-50 for 1000/1000 up/down connection, I can't wait as virgin has shown no interest in doing our street in the 3 years we've lived here despite all neighbouring streets being done.

As Fragarance Guy says - Ultrafast broadband is the big recent change with fibre cable to your property for the first time for many people.

Where I live all the cable based providers used to use BT Open network even though they say were Sky. Now I have a new provider putting in new ultrafast fibre to your door. Their price range is £30 to £100! I haven't checked what you get for that, but on average its 7 times faster than the old networks.

I use a 3 4G router. No wiring, can move it from room to room if required and even take it away from home. I pay £15 pm unlimited.
I only got it as back-up for my unreliable Sky Broadband but its all I use now.

Like the look of that but not available in TS6 as yet?

Vodafone are terrible and I would not recommend them.

I'd probably recommend PlusNet as the best internet provider I've had. Rock solid reliability and excellent customer service

We've been quite lucky, Openreach are down here retrofitting for the Digital Voice switchover next year and they've decided for some reason, to offer quite reasonable rates for FTTP. I'm considering it.
