Infantino: North Korea could host World Cup

I think after the whole Qatar debacle, anything is possible with FIFA.

It's all about the money to them.
Yeah, but if the learning from this World Cup is that “we should have opposed it more 12 years ago when it was announced” then they can’t be stupid enough to think we’d forget that learning so soon.

You think FIFA are 'learning'?

Look at the state of this whole 'armband' fiasco.

I don't think for one minute they're learning, or will learn from this World Cup. Infantino's speech the other day pretty much confirms that for me.

I fully expect Saudi Arabia to win the bidding for 2030....which I don't agree with.

I think we could do with that time machine from the other thread to allow one of us to go back and sort FIFA out.

FIFA have talked in the past about instead of the traditional powerhouses always hosting they should take the World Cup to places to grow the game and to be more inclusive. That aim is admirable and you could get on board with it and there is a possibility that giving something like the World Cup to North Korea could force them to get their act together and start to act properly if they want to be a part of the international community. However, we all know FIFA are as bent as they come and they don't care about any of that. They are just lining their own pockets and the dodgiest people have the deepest pockets.

I liked that philosophy with South Africa, but you can't possibly have two middle eastern world cups in the same decade, with the state of things in those countries.

Morocco is surely in pole position for 2030, and hopefully they will have a much better approach than Qatar, and it takes the WC to Africa again. The Saudi bid is actually in cahoots with Egypt and Greece, which in itself is bonkers. I'm not a fan of these 4/5 country joint bids but of course there will be 48 teams. Some games in Athens and some in Riyadh??? Only 4000+ km! Mind you its no worse than Vancouver to Guadalajara.

Really simple for me, future World Cup's should only be held in a country that already have appropriate stadia and infrastructure.

There are around 6-8 nations who could comfortably host the tournament with minimal expenditure.
Recent tournaments in (mostly) poverty stricken South Africa, Brazil (building stadiums in the rain forest when homeless 5 year oldest are begging on the streets), now Qatar...absolute insanity.

How do these absolute Bond Villan types get to the top of the tree at Fifa - How can they all be so corrupt

They're elected by the representative's from the world FAs. If we don't clean our act up at home and our representatives openly hostile to corruption then we're simply being hypocritical by pointing the finger at FIFA. More than that, we're condoning it.

How about Iran they have a good World Cup pedigree, surely deserve a shot!

At what point does FIFA cease to be relevant and a new organisation is demanded, once the composite parts decide to leave, FIFA ceases to exist.
