Imperial Weights and Measures - Another fantastic Brexit Bonus!

Happy with old money all day long, weight in stones & pounds, car fuel in gallons, distance & speed in miles etc

Hopefully I never see the day when I go to the bar & have to ask for 568.261 millilitres, 😁

I bet you are. You're also ignoring the fact that it will disadvantage kids. Just so you can feel happier about growing old and bringing the past back to life.

That's really selfish.

Can certainly see how legislation introduced to allow trading in imperial measurements will disadvantage kids, because imperial is completely alien and you never see clothes, pizzas, plumbing wares, tools, etc. sold using inches. Or maybe I just didn't read the article properly, or at all, like some others. :ROFLMAO:

I should have known that you'd be parochial and insular too.

Disadvantaging kids on a world stage. Given the rest of the world uses metric.

We've already reduced their chances of studying and working and living in Europe. It unnecessarily cruel, backward and shortsighted to try and take them away from a universal system of weights and measures.

It seems very much the people who are pro imperial are the set in their ways, backwards thinking, probably older bigots. Happy to maintain their tiny world view to the detriment of the country

What's detrimental to the country are dumb people refusing to read and understand what is being proposed and instead argue based on their own prejudices and poorly-researched views. You're a class apart in that regards. Well done you.

I did understand. I notice you don't address any of my issues.

It's fine you want live in your parochial little corner of the world and leave it at that. I just find it sad that this attitude is helping disadvantage our kids

What "issues" are these? Your inability to read and understand what is being proposed? Your tired and repetitive passive-aggressive attitude? Your profound ignorance and stupidity? Why would I address those?

The fact you think this matter is "taking them away from a universal system of weights and measures", suggests you don't understand at all. That isn't what is happening.

That's what is creeping in. We should be moving away from old fashioned and illogical systems. People like you want us to regress back to them. I know we go over this in different forms all the time but I just can't understand why you want the country to regress. I can't understand people who want to make their country more insular

And what I can't understand is why you insist on peddling stupid strawman arguments and dimwitted assumptions about people and topics you clearly have made no effort to understand.

We appear to have gone from is you gobbing off about something you failed to understand, with an assertion that something was being taken away, to a hypothetical that it might without anything to even support that.

I guess you'll never understand wanting our nation to move forwards and try and stop isolating itself.
I don't understand why you would want to live in such a country but boy, are you proud to defend your backwards and regressive thinking.

Yes, you make it very clear very often you don't understand much, Smalltown.
G0 on then oh wise one. As I see it, we are allowing traders and the lies to use imperial measurements. Which is an archaic and barely used system. I said this will damage our kids chances of development because it makes them less likely to be exposed to the universal and useful metric system

What exactly have I misunderstood?

Less likely how? Because Barry the Butcher *might* decide to offer his lamb chops by the pound? It won't "damage our kids chances of development" (what the **** you know about kid's development is laughable) in exactly the same way it hasn't despite the UK using a mixed measurement right now and has done for decades. You really think kids are at a disadvantage because their car speedometers are, by law, required to display mph?
That you insist "everyone under 40 has only been brought up with metric" is an outright lie, and I know this for a fact.
The problem as always is you get very emotional over trivial things you fail to inform yourself on and throw logic and reason out of the window.

Less likely yes, because there are people like you in the country who insist on regressing to the archaic ways to are yourself feel better.

Glad you have entailed that I know what I was taking about. And given your insult filled rants at me you can't really take the high ground on emotional posts.

And yes, we have been using the metric system for over 40 years. No lie, simple, verifiable fact.

People like me aren't insisting on regressing at all. What people like me are doing are pointing out how foolish you are, making inaccurate and outrageous claims based on your failures to understand what is being proposed and your ignorance of how the imperial system exists in British society today regardless of these proposed changes.

Allowing shops, stalls and supermarkets to use imperial measurements exclusively will be at their own discretion, and they will most certainly find what their customers prefer. The metric system isn't being taken away despite your implication. It will still exists and still be used in every industry and institution that matters. You will still be able you measure all the tears you shed in millilitres, of that I am sure.

And yes, whilst the metric system has been used for over 40 years, this wasn't bull**** claim you made.

Just for some clarity because I am really confused, are we arguing that the UK should have all measurements in metric or imperial???

I think the argument is that Generation Z are going to be having panic attacks because they don't know if the price of five bananas they bought last week is going to cost the same of five bananas next week as the greengrocer has decided to be particularly mischievous and wrote his price labels in drachm and hundredweight.
