I'm Liking What Denmark are doing

I worked closely with some danish engineers a while back and they were really great guys very similar dry humour to the english. Far friendlier people than the Norwegians or swedes in my experience. They have a great work/life balance. I think a lot of the problems in this country stem from over population the irish seem to copping better with covid and they are another country with a smaller better educated population, new zealand another.

How would this impact on the employees of those companies if theyre out of work would thet suffer because of the way their company operates?

Definitely a point to consider in whether to take the approach or not.
The ‘logic’ would be if you aren’t paying your taxes or can afford to pay dividends you ought to be able to afford to pay your people.
The risk is - they just make people redundant.

I am struggling to understand how companies like Virgin should be eligible for any bail out when they pay no tax in this country. Let them get their bail out package from The Cayman Islands or wherever it is they are hiding their profits. I guess that for the employees we would pay the standard 80% of their wages but for things like "government loan guarantee scheme", I'd say "**** off Branson".

The owner may not, but they will pay corporation tax and NI for UK employees.

Employer’s NI contributions yes, but probably not much in the way of corporation tax.

The parent company of Virgin Group is registered in the British Virgin Islands and charges each of its operations a licence fee for the use of the brand. Often, the licence fee accounts for most, if not all, of the profits.

It’s the same fiddle that loads of companies use to hide their profits in a tax haven.

The problem is, the best financial auditors are frequently headhunted by the big plcs and the big corps are huge revenue streams for the auditors. HMRC and their equivalents have very little chance of holding them to account

I thought the urban myth was that HMRC headhunts the best people from private practice. They then go & write the regulations, close loopholes they didn't use & create new ones to exploit for their return to private practice in due course.
