I'm A Celeb - Matt Hancock

Watched it last night. It felt really uncomfortable for me.

In my opinion Hancock is responsible for thousands of deaths when he decided to send untested patients from hospitals back to care homes, he's responsible for billions of £ wasted during the pandemic and also responsible, along with Johnson, for a dreadful English response to the pandemic. As such I was kind of hoping that he would get it with both barrels in there...

BUT

He looks so dim and gullible, like a scrawny Mr Bean, and clearly doesn't realise what people actually think of him. None of his camp mates seem happy he's there or even like him. I think personally it will be a horrible experience for him mentally and I feel uncomfortable that ITV are showing all of this on TV. If I was isolated in a similar environment like that I would have a breakdown for sure.

Now that might be what he deserves - he might just deserve to have a breakdown, be made to do every challenge, be berated by his camp mates - but it just doesn't sit right with me sending him for his punishment on national TV. I think jail would be more appropriate.

Please can someone tell me I am wrong for feeling uneasy that he may well get destroyed in there!!

Yeah dunno to be honest. He's a grown up. Until recently one this country's government thought was capable enough of being one of our senior leaders. So unless there's any known mental health issues (not sure delusional narcissist counts) then it's up to him if he wants to put himself in that position.

If the penny hasn't dropped for him as to what people think of him by now, I doubt a few z Listers being awkward around him is likely to register. Hard to have much sympathy for him for the reasons you mention.

Oh and what physique do you think Mr Bean has? 😉

Haha yes, fair enough re his physique.

You watch him in there and wonder how anyone thought he was capable of running the health of the nation.

There’s a grifter in the jungle
poisoning our dreams
as we sit and drink the Valium
from our television screens.

No reality in Reality TV
as they bear bait another clown,
no love in Love Island,
the only way is down.

Moan about the government
as they oil their slippery wheels
but as soon as one is ‘one of us’
we sit and clap like seals.

Blindly following is good
while thinking is bad,
pause that record button,
we’ve all been had.

I find it completely wrong to see a sitting politician, paid over £100k pa of taxpayers money to represent his constituents of West Suffolk, (whilst Parliament is not in recess to boot) to be in there and therefore cant watch it.

Mind you I hate the programme so wouldn’t have anyway.

Your right as everyone in that Camps life has been affected by that man’s actions including ant and dec and the protocol they had in wales.

I can honestly see some of the stars walking esp boy George. Moyles does not look happy either as he said shouldn’t he be at work.

The pandemic was truly unique and personal experience regardless of money or status you had to comply with the rules even the queen at prince Phillips funeral ie attending hospitals etc. so we have no idaa what personal issues the camp mates had to then be confronted by the architect of it all.

My thoughts:

1. He’s in there of his own free will, and getting paid (reportedly) £500,000 for it, so if he’s nominated for every challenge so be it
2. Most of the celebrities looked very uneasy/uncomfortable about him being there. Will be interesting by to see how the attitudes towards him develop. For the sake of the show (food etc) they’re going to have to work with him, but I can’t see anyone wanting to form a bromance with him.
3. I’m sure ITV will have rules in place around bullying etc.
4. Could be a good opportunity for him to get a grilling and have to actually answer the question, rather than trot out the party line

Very much car crash TV but also quite compelling viewing.

One thing that did make me a bit cross was when the newsreader lady said I’m journalist so feel I have to ask the awkward questions and just asked why he was doing it. He’s doing it for the same reasons as the rest of them for money and exposure.

If your a proper journalist use the opportunity to ask him proper questions that will make him squirm, like does he regrets any decisions he made, ask him how involved in the policy decisions was he, what was his relationship like with Cummings, is he sorry, how does he think the government did, how did he feel about the PM at the time, is there anything he would do different etc etc

Not, why are you here!!!!

I don't like the idea that he can win people over by being a good sport and giving the challenges a go. That's obviously his aim. You could see Shaun has already almost got over the shock of it being Hancock and he's now just Matt.

It's impossible to separate the man from the position he held and decisions he made (as well as the dodgy contracts, the affair at work etc) from the person and the other people in the shouldn't have to.

It's weird because politicians that go in there usually are seen as beneath the celebrity level in the fame hierarchy but this time it seems like he's above them. This is someone who definitely impacted all of their lives in some way. I wonder how many of the camp are Tory voters and whether they would support him. The entertainment side of the media tends to be left wing so might not be any.

I actually cannot believe people still watch this animal cruelty programme, regardless of who is in it...

I am a bit uneasy with that part of it too but then again I eat animals so I can't get on my soap box about it - I am having an internal conversation with myself about my animal consumption too.

I don't watch programmes like this tbh. Re Matt Hancock - I feel he knows exactly what he is doing. He is taking a 6 figure fee, £400,000 has been mentioned for this. His inflated ego, maybe narcissistic personality, and his thirst for money drives him to do this. I don't blame him in a way, but my empathetic side for others who have suffered leaves me feeling uneasy.

Having witnessed the tragic mess of the covid period of which he was responsible I think he should show more humility and not put himself in the public spotlight. Many people died needlessly as a consequence of decisions he was responsible for. The programme producers also lack scruples and moral fibre for allowing this charade.

He is driven by money, power, and self publicity. Not very nice traits if you have a track record such as his.

Don’t watch it as rule.Ocassionally dip into it. Ant and Dec can be quite entertaining on it.

Hancock’s participation doesn’t sit right with me.

Will deliberately be avoiding it this year though. Think ITV have misjudged the mood badly on this. Sticking a politician in there for sh2ts and giggles is one thing, but not the failed heath sec who presided over a pandemic.

I stopped eating meat 30 odd years ago and I find this programme disturbing at how they can kill lives for humour.

ITV should be looking at themselves for giving him the chance to redeem himself by appearing on the show and putting audience figures over morals.

Then again they employ people like Schofield who think that selfies with Johnson and shouting at Corbyn is a jolly good laugh, as is offering the people the chance to live or die through a gameshow.
