Iheanacho

Conway was totally starved of opportunities from a poor midfield, and I felt sorry for him. Howson did all he could to chivvy things up, arguably our best player, but nothing came off for us. Their 'keeper had a cracking game too.

What a terrible January we had. If he was brought in to replace LL the signing failed miserably as he has the pace of a slug. If he was brought in to play like Akpom not a chance as he can’t even pass while moving and playing him centrally just nullifies Azaz.

I'm probably in the minority but I actually thought he had a decent game. Thought he was decent as a focal point for us, as he kept finding pockets of space and laying the ball off for others.

I'd have taken Whittaker off ahead of him today. What a terrible signing he's proving to be.
I agree of him Azaz and Whittaker he was head and shoulders above and it was astonishing that Forss didn’t come on for Whittaker and Azaz wasn’t hooked at half time.

I think he sticks with Azaz because in fairness he does have the ability to produce a moment of magic out of nowhere. He had a mare today though.

Personally I'd have brought Forss on for Whittaker at half-time, and if that wasn't working I'd have switched Azaz into the middle and gone with Burgzorg on the left. He left it far too late to make the 2nd change.

hitting himself in the face was one the funniest things I've ever seen at a match. He went to control the ball and somehow blasted it straight upwards into his chops. Staggering stuff!

He'll go down in boro folklore as one of the worst strikers we've ever had.

Whittaker may well have the heart of a pea and shirk anything that remotely looks like a tackle but I could possibly live with that if he had some pace or basic skills. Having neither is a total condemnation of him being signed at any price - let alone 6 million pounds. Who signed that off?
Actually subbing Iheanacho before him was yet another masterstroke from our soon to be ex-Manager.

The 3 behind Conway were diabolical.
Azaz, Whittaker and Iheanacho were shocking.
Absolutely rubbish and they have been for months. They've killed our season.
A lot of work to do there in the summer but hard to see how we do it.

Azaz
Whittaker
Burgzorg
Forss
Mcgree
Gilbert
Silvera

How do we sort this out? All of them still in contract.

How have we paid £7m for this chancer

Whilst I agree they have played poorly, since Carrick came up with the amazing tactic of no left forward and 2 or 3 all on the right, it's absolutely done them no favours.

I think any manager could have got more out of this squad.

I'm going to say I could have got more out of them.

Burgzorg lw Azaz 10 and Mw or Forss Rw.

If Neto hadn't been injured, play him LB and IJ LW.
Simple and would have definitely got more out of this squad.

100% agree. He could’ve even put Giles on and pushed Illing Jnr infront. Worst part of it all he puts Fry upfront. He’s finished and needs to go.

I said I'd do this at half time. And the way Giles played when he came on going forwards I reckon it would have done the trick. Oh well.

Another one bites the dust.

Trouble is Carrick is reactive and would never ever dream of changing something that is obvious to everyone else. Azaz and Whittaker have no bite and leaves the midfield completely exposed down the side. We should be playing 3-5-2 with Matt Clarke at lcb, fry and rav rcb. We used to dominate possession and play exciting football, now we do neither- our press is absolutely appalling out of possession.

Spot on!

Azaz and Whittaker playing in the same team has been a massive failure for us.
Whittaker looks miles off it. I can't believe he scored 19 goals for Plymouth last season because we've seen nothing to suggest he's capable of that. That looks a terrible signing.
Azaz comes up with the odd moment and his stats are pretty flattering but he doesn't influence games. He's physically weak and is poor at retaining possession. I think the negatives outweigh the positives.
When the twi of them play together we are so physically weak and devoid of physicality in the final third.
