square pegs in round holes? or round pegs just dressed as square pegs?

--------Stojanovic------------
McNair--Hall--Fry--Johnson
------Howson--Saville-------
Spence--Fletcher--Tavernier
--------Assombalonga-------

------------Pears-----------------
Dijksteel--Wood--Stubbs--Bola
---------Malley--Wing-----------
---Walker--Browne--Coulson---

and that would be our transfer window.

Shotton - McNair
Ayala - Hall
Mokoudi - Stubbs
Friend - Johnson
Clayton - Malley
Morrison - Howson
Roberts - Browne
Nmecha - Walker
Gestede - O'Neil

A few of them have done well at times. Hopefully Warnock can improve the mental strength of the squad and 'get a tune' out of a few of them
But still need incoming players

--------Stojanovic------------
Djicksteel--Hall--Fry--Johnson
------Howson--Saville-------
Spence--Fletcher--Tavernier
--------Assombalonga

Looks like only 14 first team regulars in that list (not counting the goalies)

so you’re asking the first team to play all 46 games. Even a couple of injuries and we would be throwing kids in

I fear even with Warnock in charge that squad would be relegated

Still an improvement on last season. We have a manager who knows what he's doing👍

We will definitely get loans in. Although maybe not until September. Still plenty of frees knocking about. I think we are hoping to free up a few wages.

I'm not expecting much. Mid table with little or no flirting with relegation. I guess the odd skirt between 10th a 6th to 'dream'. We are worse off than last summer but have a better manager.

I'm not panicking until the window shuts. Then we know what we have availible👍

I think we could add 15 Pts to last seasons tally . Warnock has certainly hit it in him to get atleast out of the same players woodgate had . The players that have left mostly haven’t played other than Ayala and he finished in January

I think a lot depends on your expectations for next season. A good finish to next season for me would be mid-table.

Squad as it stands is probably lower half - I think with 4-5 additions it's probably looking mid-table (depending on the quality of those we bring in).

I think we'd struggle to utilise our squad effectively playing as a back four with those players. Having said that, we don't really have enough centre backs to play a back three, I suppose you could class McNair as one though.

I don't think Spence and Coulson are really well suited to play as full backs or wingers. Dijksteel showed reasonable form at right-back post restart, but I'm not yet 100% convinced he would be a first choice for a team pushing to go up via the play-offs. Bola has looked like a League 1 player out of his depth every time I've seen him. Johnson can do a job, but isn't a left-back and has caused us problems defensively when he's played there. I think Spence and Coulson are both capable wing-backs, and Dijksteel/Howson and Bola/Johnson would provide plenty of cover.

I should definitely add a caveat that nearly all of my opinions on the players were formed from a shambolic, horribly coached disaster of a season. With a pre-season of organised coaching, playing in a system where everyone knows their roles they may well step up a level and look fine.

So for me, we lack wide forward players and fullbacks to play 4-3-3 and we lack centre backs and creativity and drive from midfield to play 3-5-2, along with more fire power up top.

Maybe line up something like this?
* I know it says with current players but I'm assuming Gibson may well come in and McNair may well be sold, we'd still need a centre half and a centre mid most likely, along with a striker. The main problem with this waffle is that Warnock will most likely revert to type and not play it. And also, it is kind of building the team shape around the fact our better spells recently have coincided with Spence and Couslon having effective, energetic games from wing-back. If they don't there is little width and creativity in there.

Who'd be a manager eh?

I don’t think Warnock would have taken the job if he didn’t feel confident of a successful season. With that squad I think we will definitely be in the top half (based on performances under NW so far). With additional players I think we’ll make the play offs

Wood & O’ Neil?
I think we’ll make a few signings before the season starts. Plus we have until October 16th to bring in loan players (five can be played in a match day squad) one single player like Sanogo would change the dynamic of the team and a player like Patrick Roberts could rapidly change our league prospects.

one or two signings plus five loan players completely changes the team and it goes without saying that we would bring in players better than we have right now.

RB, CB, LB, MF, RW, AM, ST

If we’re looking at players that are the same calibre of Hall, Gibson, Roberts & Sanogo then I do think we have a genuine chance at reaching the playoffs.
