If the outcome would have been different, in your opinion which event would have had greatest impact for Middlesbrough Football club?

Holding onto the lead against Leicester for me. That would have got us Europe and given us enough confidence to win enough points to stay up. Then who knows how high we could have gone.

Staying up under Robbo. The alleged list we planned to bring in was, I recall, frighteningly top quality. A once in a lifetime chance
Totally agree, we where linked with Roberto Carlos, Batistuta and the Spain International Central defender (can’t remember his name, but think he was nicknamed ’the butcher’ )😁 these guys where all on top of their again at the time…I’m sure Batistuta had agreed to come if we stayed up.

Middlesborough
😲

Of those listed it's definitely staying up in 97.

Maybe Shankly taking over 60-odd years ago would have made a difference but the relative size of Boro vs Liverpool is highly likely to have played a bigger part across the years.

UEFA cup for me. Shankly may have been good based on the dynasty he created at Liverpool. But no guarantee that would have been the same for us. As Scrote said the size of Liverpool as a city doesn’t compare to us.

Similar for 97. It’s a what could have been.

I was only 4 in 1975 so wouldn’t remember winning the league (or celebrating) 😄. So would just be history.

So UEFA it is. We would have won another trophy which no one could take away and I would have witnessed it and had a proper celebration.

I don't remember 75 but voted for it, it would have changed our history totally and our future going forward, who knows what else would have come out of it, 86 wouldn't have happened, but then would have Steve Gibson happened, it's that butterfly effect. I get 97 but there is no guarantee we wouldn't have had a crap season again just as much as an incredible one, there would have been no Merson. Ravenelli and Emerson might still be divisive in the club etc, the only + that was guaranteed was we would have Feata for a full season.

Post of the day Corco65

For me big Jacks team winning the league championships in 1975, our best ever team & manager
We could have been another Forest

The question asked on the very day our best ever keeper Jim Platt came to our road party as a guest 👍
Was Jim Platt a better keeper than Tim Williamson?

In fact I've already changed my mind.

Uefa Cup win would be something no-one could ever take away from us.
I've voted and changed my mind already as well. Went for staying up under Robbo, basing my thoughts on the trajectory of the club, but am also now thinking that winning the UEFA cup would've been the right thing to vote for, would've been the pinnacle of my time watching the Boro.
