If Lidl or Aldi delivered

That was actually quite pedestrian compared to the coulby Aldi crew... I have a panic attack and a major sweat on the min I walk upto the till.

You can almost feel them getting the measure of you... then you get the look of disappointment when they have to stop and wait for you to catch up

I actually don’t shop in there as you’re spot on , it is high end pressure . It’s almost like the whole store just stops dead when it’s your go at the till and all turn looking at you with their stopwatches in hand . If you make a slight error and spin a bottle of juice instead of catching it full on and shoving it , you can hear all the tuts from behind you .

Go to Lidl at Yarm Lane, they have chutes at the tills so you can load your shopping while the next person is going through the till.

My local Aldi branch have a click and collect service now. I did ponder when I noticed it on Saturday whether they just ask you to wind down a back seat window and pour the stuff in.

Just tip it straight back into the trolley and then put it in bags by the back wall if you can't keep up with the checkout staff.

S-easy.

I never shop but that's the one my wife goes to. It always seems empty as I sit outside waiting for her to carry the bags back. It's an effort to get out and help.

I believe the staff get a bonus based on the speed of serving a customer at the till. Some Lidls now have self service check outs. If you don't mind limited choice you save 25% off your shopping. I use them but not all the time.

Our lass walks away when we get to the tills, I wait until she has scanned everything, then i pay, then I start packing .

couldn’t care less who’s tutting

I'm sure I remember watching a documentary about Aldi or Lidl once and they were explaining how they had put multiple barcodes on each item to make sure they could be scanned quickly at the checkouts. I thought this was a genius idea especially after having worked on a supermarket checkout in the dim and distant past.

I can’t stand the way they throw your shopping at you to the point where I won’t shop there anymore. I also hate the way the aisles are always being restocked during the day so that no one can social distance properly.
I find Waitrose far more civilised and much safer in terms of social distancing etiquette, the aisles are wider and shoppers don’t feel the need to bring their entire families for a day out.

On the other hand at Lidl/Aldi there is hardly ever a queue - I remember going in some M and S and Tescos last year and queueing for ages and also feeling less safe for being in that queue. I can drive to lidl in under 10 mins. Shop in under 10 mins and so be back loading my fridge with change to spare in half an hour.

Is that a necessary journey considering you live in Middlesbrough and there are Aldi/Lidl's much closer to you.

Just asking for a friend that's all.

Waitrose customers practised social distancing before covid!

The area they put the items after scanning in Lidl seems very small. They just keep pushing stuff through no matter how full it gets, they did it once and knocked some eggs off which smashed all over the floor. They ended up wasting more time trying to get someone to come clean it up than if they just put things through at a normal speed.

I use the Aldi and Lidl in Middlesbrough - Dickfingers. Am just pointing out about Lidl in Stockton.
But the whole point is you don't pack your bag at the till. I find it better during Covid than queuing right across the food hall in Teesside Park M ans S.

I find the Aldi checkout process massively superior. As soon as queues appear they open more tills. The queue usually moves very quickly, unless you're behind one of those people who try to pack everything away neatly at the till. These people should not be allowed to buy food!
