I think ”Bevver” from Loftus was one of the lads who drowned, and the current was that strong that a lad who made it ashore barely had any clothes left on him.
 
Thanks for that - only time I went to Skinningrove village was to the Tom Leonard Museum I always associated it with mining and steel works, not so much fishing. The coast road from Saltburn to Whitby just skirted the village, so probably led to it being a bit more isolated and different. The look of the teenage lads in the late 1970s reminds me of where I lived near Whitby and the gangs my brothers and I knew. All that is mising are the 50cc mopeds/bikes

Don't know if you watched the video, but there was mention by Chris of the marks left by 'pub fights' on the faces of some of the lads in the photographs.
 
Graham also did a lot of photographs in Skinningrove (he and Chris were very close) and I recall going to the opening of his exhibition in the village itself.
