I have truly mixed feelings over derby...

If you compare the punishment they have had to say Bolton or Bury it's absolutely nothing. Bury out of business, Bolton relegation, relegation again and all their players sold off, played a team of kids in League Two. Yet we have Derby who have done much worse think they should hold onto their players and they have been punished enough? Can't figure that out myself, I mean they haven't even received any punishment for the blatant cheating of accounts, they got 12 points for admin and 9 points for FFP breaches, but didn't they fail ffp three times? and didn't they late filing of ffp

I'm not sure why they feel so entitled to be treated better than those two clubs in spite of those others being mismanaged rather than Machiavellian AND mismanaged like Derby
Good post

If you caught a fraudster (mel Morris) trying to cheat his way into your neighbours house (premier league) would -
A. Do nothing because you don’t want the fraudster to lose out.
B. Ring the authorities (efl) and tell them what the fraudster is doing so that he can be dealt with

if you then found out that the fraudster had put you at a loss in the past would you then seek compensation?

Sir Steve has done the right thing

personally I think Gibosn should drop the claim. For all the rights and wrongs of it all if Derby go out of existance we will be forever blamed. Ignore the idots - there are lots of genuine Derby fans who did nothing wrong themselves and dont deserve to lose their lifelong club. If Gibson publically drops his claim then we will be the good guys again :)

They cheated and they got caught - yet their fans are blaming the club (and Chairman) who are attempting to uphold the rules of the league

They are mental - the blame lies solely with the poor running of their football club, not Wycombe, not Middlesbrough

100% behind Gibson - let them go to the wall

some people obviously forget (or maybe were not born then) what it was like to almost lose your club.

For any football fan to want another club to 'go to the wall' is awful to read.
It's really not - they cheated... they can come back as FC Derby

But in it's current form, they cheated LET THEM GO TO THE WALL - it's a limited company and that's business

Harsh, but a reality

I remember Gibson summed it up perfectly when he spoke about it during Woodgates' presser.

Rules are in place in football for a reason, they're to be followed, and if somebody is guilty of breaking those rules then they should be punished accordingly.

He used the example of expecting a defender who decides to pick up the ball in the box to be punished and a penalty given. It wouldn't just be ignored.

because if Derby seize to exist then the fans suffer as we almost did
So what's the moral of the story? - Don't cheat

If anything the people who have made their fans suffer is the previous Derby County ownership, not MFC or Wycombe

I don't remember their fans being that bothered when they were chanting "We're Derby, we do what we want"

I would feel for some of their fans because in this country, for now Atleast, football is not a franchise. It is a way of life.
Derby won’t go to the wall. They could end up non league but they won’t go to the wall. Like above, they may end up fc county of derby or something.
The true fans will still have something to support

they'll blame him regardless. Why should he have material financial losses and forget them just to allow Morris to claw a bit more money back?

exactly and that will be because they were so badly financially mismanaged. Nobody cried over Glasgow Rangers, or Bolton being in the 4th tier, they got on with it, and Morris was far worse than those.

True...apart from their fans.....its the poor loyal punters who suffer....

IF we were ever in that situation or similar it would be 5hit but I’d still support the Boro. My mates are hartlepool fans and they love it and always have. Derby won’t end up out of the league

I’m still waiting for someone to tell me the crimes for which Derby have not been punished already. It’s a genuine question. I can’t find reference to it anywhere. The thrust of many of these arguments is that Gibson’s pursuit of a claim against Derby is somehow a noble one because there are breaches that have gone unpunished. But there aren’t as far as I can tell.

Here is the Agreed Decision which confirms that they were punished for the losses in excess of FFP thresholds, for late filing, for the dodgy amortization policies and for their administration:

That being the case, and given that the legal merit of our case is ropey, it then looks like we are pursuing a case at a critical time either to maximize leverage against a club on its knees or to kill that club. It’s a pretty awful look either way. It’s not noble. It smacks of vindictiveness. I hate the idea, whatever the circumstances, that our club could have a material role in killing another.

Steve Gibson started the legal action 12 months ago, long before Derby went into administration. Why should he drop that action just because they've been found out and punished?

I have little sympathy. The administrators Quantuma dealt with Portsmouth's first administration and by all accounts made a bit of a dogs dinner of it with the club being back in administration within 24 months. Kieran Maguire on the The Price of Football podcast said none of the main insolvency firms would touch the Derby job with a barge pole which is how Quantuma got involved. He reckoned there fee will be in region of £2m if sale proceeds. Reason its unattractive to main insolvency firms is because of the situation with stadium having been siphoned off and owned by one of Mel Morris' other companies. This means apart from player assets there is little to bargain with. Prospective buyers get the name and the squad. This is why the EFL are pushing Derby to sell players in January to keep the club afloat until the summer but the administrators are refusing. Wigans administrators sold the training ground and players (Morsy being one) think another Wigan player was bought cheap by Derby ironically. This resulted in relegation but bought time to find a viable buyer. Derby and administrators are refusing to sell their only assets which in effect could be seen as 'refusing to take their medicine' and leaving themselves open to relegation as happened to Wigan, Bolton etc This is fair enough I guess but Mel Morris if he really loves Derby could give them back stadium and help make them more attractive to buy but he's run away. No wonder Gibbo is not backing down. Mel Morris has a lot to answer for.

I'm not sure he will be allowed to gift the stadium, it has a written book value now of 80mill, there will be questions to answer if he just gives it back or even for a fraction of that, and that could lead to more FFP and disciplinary action.

It might even open up the previous cases about inflating asset value for FFP and might have tax implications too. What a mess
