I feel really sorry for Gibbo

Words some might think they would never hear me say- but they are genuine. For years our finances have been saddled with paying vastly over the odds on wages. Progress on this front has been brilliant with the majority of high earners gone.

And then Cornavirus comes along. So the revenue into the club - as with others- shrinks to levels never seen.

Really awful timing as the club was making progress. So Gibbo, despite your faults- sorry- you have been thwarted by economic decisions you can’t control. So thank you seeing us through thesE very dark days

I'm sure I read he's hemeraging 1mil a month on the club during covid. No crowds etc.

You have to seriously question why he does it? He gets stick despite spending millions by champo standards. He's losing a fortune on a club that's not going anywhere.

Again.... Why would you do it? I doubt he needs the stess or seeing his money disappear down the pan😕

NK - I agree with your first 2 paragraphs, not the third one though.

We shifted a lot of players before March 2020 if CV19 came 12 months earlier it would have been worse - think Braithwaite, Flint, Randolph, Downing, Mikel Obi, Van Parra, Hugill, Besic - we picked up £14.5m in fees there which would not have done in CV19 market. We have also picked up a Bamford transfer bonus this Summer and possibly a Traore one from earlier transfer deals.

We have bought Morsey for £400k and Akpom for £2.75m and got Hall on a free - all cheaper deals due partly due to CV19.

We managed to get rid of most of the high earners before Covid really kicked in so that is a huge benefit. The wage bill even though high still by Champo standards must be very considerably reduced.
Gibbo keeps us afloat, mistakes have been made most certainly but I'm not knocking him, without him I have no idea where we would be now?
Cmon Boro we are making some decent progress now,Warnock will steady the ship and get us moving in the right direction.

Some money is coming into the club - 9500 season tickets - SKY tv money - radio money - some reduced commercial/merchandise money - some TV pay per game - money from previous transfers in seasons 2019/20 and 2018/19, payments from EPL.

Costs have been cut through non playing redundancies, smaller squad, cheaper players wages, lower match day costs (no free drinks, no police, no stewards, fewer cleaners, no hospitality hosts etc)

Having said that the club will be losing around £750k a month (10k tickets per match - 5 league home matches to date) - they normally lose around £500k per month picked up by Steve Gibson or his business.

Have to agree with Nosmo on this. I hope Bulkhaul isn’t badly hit as a double whammy for him. All football chairmen outside of the Premier League will be having a really tough time of it. Those lower down the food chain will be lost without bail outs. This is gonna change whole communities forever if we are not careful. It is just one huge, long, recurring nightmare.

At the rate initially stated £1m a month not sure how long Steve G can keep it going, potentially season ticket money to be returned. hard times indeed but i cannot see the logic of all fans being barred from games.
we can gho out, shop, have meals, pubs etc all kinside but cannot sit outside, distanced and wearing a mask.

All I can say is that without Gibbo we would be watching non league football at best. I am eternally grateful to hi for rescuing a club that I have supported for over 50 years. For all the slagging off he gets here no other chairman would even dream of doing what he has done for us.

I would not expect moving chemicals etc is a business that is heavily affected in a negative way by CV19.

Rockcliffe Park hotel and restaurant has been hit hard, but its a minor part of his business from what I know (less than 5%)

What I know about business could be written on a postage stamp but even I could see that Rockcliffe was a vanity project that would lose money hand over fist. Then again, maybe that is the intent.

I think more is the question if you could why wouldn’t you do it. If I had the money I’d do it in a flash, I’ve spent a massive amount of my time watching boro, travelling around the country up and down the motorways to watch them and spending god knows how many hours on fmttm for the last 17 years reading and posting about them.

he’s living the dream in my view, he’s a lucky b***r and I can’t see why anyone would feel sorry for him. Despite all of the money he’s threw at boro over the years his fortune has hardly diminished. Yes he could have £400 million in his bank instead of £200 million but how much would you need to live comfortably on?

There’s young lads and family guys scrimping up the money week in and out to get to the games who travel all over to watch them, all of their disposable money is spent on Boro, feel sorry for these guys, not Gibson who is a multi millionaire who gets full control over how he spends his own money.

The "man of the people" died in my eyes when he voted for the scum tory party and MP who he previously called a clown in the gazette. In essence, Gibson, is against free broadband and a higher minimum wage for working class people. He endorsed this shower of spivs, liars, charlatans and tax thieves. I love my boro, and my club is bigger that a tory scumbag.

To bring politics into it? More than a bit sad. He is entitled to his political view. Afterall thousands deserted Labour for one reason or another.

I don’t feel sorry for him but I do feel grateful.

his switch to the nasty party also diminished him in my eyes but I am still grateful for his work for the club

If he had run this club properly/brought someone in who knows how to run a club properly we would have been an established prem side and he could have sold us on for £150 million.

Its hard to feel sorry for someone financially who has enough money to last him 50 lifetimes, yes he will end up taking a hit through all of this but its hardly like he will be struggling.

Why would anyone choose to lose money?
