I don’t want to sound negative…

But I can see things turning a bit unpleasant if we get beat on Sunday. The fabled countdown to the window closing will only be 2 weeks away after Sunday and apart from Hoppe we don’t seem to be close to making any other signings. I know people will say we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes etc but realistically how many deals get announced these days without it being common knowledge in advance? The lack of midfielders linked is the main worry for me. We need at least 2 and the lad from WBA is the only one being mentioned now.

Worrying times.

I think most fans will stick with it if we play well and make the effort for more than just 45 minutes.

Having a go in the first half and tickling the puppy's tummy in the second half is what will tip the crowd.

The bit which I find frustrating is that it would not stun me if we miss out on playoffs yet again by a couple of points which could easily have been picked up in August/September when new signings find their feet, bed in... Well, if we had many. 😉

Dont see why it would get unpleasant Sheff Utd finished above us last season, although we do have a good record against the Blades at the Riverside (EDIT they last won here in 1997)

I think the majority of the support are aware we've brought a few quid in, and everyones in the same boat.

The last week of the window will be manic for everyone, i just hope we haven't lost too much ground on the teams above by then.

I will be really ***ed off if they dont address the deficiencies in midfield, however I get a feeling they are more or less settled on what we have there. They appear to be more focussed on getting strikers in. To me there is no contingency for losing the likes of Howson, if he had a long term injury to him we have no one to step in

I think we'll sign Greaves, Mowatt and Muniz but will miss out on a defensive midfielder, meaning we'll be heavily reliant on Howson again this season.

You would think Wilder would have learnt many lessons from the hammering we took from them last season.

We looked very good in the first half against WBA, it hasn't been all doom and gloom as some fans might want you to think.

Shame it's a Sunday kick off as they tend to be quite subdued atmospheres, I dunno how many Sheff Utd are bringing but really hope the home crowd is up for this one. Personally think it will be a hard thought draw.

It’s disappointing again but completely predictable that we completely mess up the transfer window and start the season in disarray. Again we started the summer with what seemed realistic and achievable quality signings - Armstrong, Gayle, Gyokeres, Greaves, Choudry, etc. players we have seen and been impressed by and who we feel can take the team to the next level and challenge for promotion. We always knew we were going to realise funds of circa £25 to £30m from the sale of Spence, Tav (and potentially Fry), instead we are back in bargain basement territory for a couple of young lads who could be anything Forse, Hoppe et al. We have become such an unattractive second rate club in the last few years unable to attract or nail down quality signings. I think fabs have every right to kick off if we are bottom 6 as the window closes.

I agree its going to be a mad last week of the transfer window. Let's hope we get some quality in at the right prices. Unfortunately our league position may not be great at that time, which is a downer as we expected to start reasonably well. However, still early days as they say and a good win tonight followed up by a win on Sunday will have us all feeling optimistic again (especially if Akpom grabs a couple)!

I think McNair will cover that spot if he's not taken Dijksteel's place at right centreback.
I'd still really like to see Djiksteel playing in that role as well, especially as I feel McNair could be more effective playing RCB.

I'd be tempted to start Djiksteel in that role tonight.

"worrying times"

Just wait and see what happens.

Regarding the result this weekend, it would be a tough game which could go either way. irrespective of signings. I'd like to think Boro fans have a bit more about them that to let things turn unpleasant 3 games into a season

This isn’t football manager, clubs like ours can’t just magically sign all the players they want before the season starts. Not sure why so many find this difficult to understand

Barnsley an attractive 5-1 to win on paddy power. Hardly ever have a bet on anything involving Boro but this is quite tempting given our likely weak line up and priority’s lying supposedly with promotion

Worrying times? We aren’t even two weeks into the season

Crooks, McGree, Howson, McNair, Boyd-Munce [Gibson, Hackney, Conteh from the reserves] to fill 3 spots. Quite tame really. I think we definitely need 1 more, but i agree i think CW is more focused on Greaves & forwards and if we don't get midfielders he isn't fussed. Putting alot on Howson, unproven McGree and McNair whose been playing in defence for years.
