I could do with a bit of help please

I have Three wi fi. No matter where I place it in the house, ( and I have tried everywhere) I still get the red LTE light, meaning that the signal is not very good. Whilst I can use my laptop with no bother I cannot stream on my TV as it says that the signal is too weak. The router is literally inches away from the TV.
Has anyone any suggestions please?

I had similar issue with sky a few years back, they blamed atmospheric conditions in the house and could not provide a sensible solution. I ended up ending the contract early with them.

The best idea was to hardwire everything including the iPads ..

Have you tried changing the WiFi channel?

Also the 2.4GHz has a better range than the 5GHz but as you are right next to the router you should be able to use both without any problems but as the TV is right next to the router then might as well use a wired Ethernet connection which will give you fast speeds and no interference.

Are there any devices close by that might be causing Wi-Fi interference like cordless phones, microwaves etc…

I was going to say the same thing. Is the router near the telly? Does the TV have an ethernet port? Or a different type of port you can use with a converter? If yes, then hard wire the connection.

Click here to check Check the network status in your area

Has it always been bad signal or just Started?

As you have a weak signal on your Router until this is resolved you are going to struggle to stream. This is the first issue to resolve.

Do you use 3 for your Mobile as well and what is the signal strength like? Could literally be poor signal if this is the first time you have used 3. Is it a 5g or a 4g MiFi that you are using? If it is 5g just try changing the settings to 4g it could just be pulling a poor 5g signal

Yes, the signal is OK for my phone and the laptop. It's just the streaming that is the problem. It is 4g and according to Three website the signal around here is very good .It has been like this since I got it installed in August

That's a strange one then have you tried using the MiFi in a different area to your home and does it pick up signal. Try taking out the SIM card and trying it in a mobile phone and turn it into a hotspot. If it works in the phone then it's most likely a hardware issue with the MiFi device. If it's contract and you have just taken it out you can just return it in your 14 day cooling off period if you are outside of that timescale report as faulty and ask them to send you out a new MiFi device and SIM card as well

Same thing happened to me, it was the microwave in the living room next to the tv which was causing the problem.

if your phone is on three network go to fast.com and do a real world speed test (they use Netflix servers) and then connect to the WiFi and try it?

There are TV's in the bedrooms too (although not being used at the mo) so hardwire is not really feasable.
I have been trying to contact Three but can get no answer to the phones in both Stockton and Middlesbrough shops. Technical support want a Three phone number from me, (my mobile is with smarty) and the chat service doesn't work. They are as bad as Virgin.

Hardwire by going out the wall where router is, and back in where the tv is - it's fairly straight forward to do and removes any ballache with signals ever again. Or you can go up to loft and drop down walls where the TV's are if you don't want too many external cables. Handyman job if you don't want to do it yourself

Any views on ethernet over power adapters if the cable runs are really difficult? I have used them in the past.

The key thing is if your phone is on three - do the speed test on network and then on WiFi, rules out the mifi device or config

If your phone isn't on 3, then I suspect it could just be your house doesn't have great 4g signal for three

I would say they're probably the least reliable tech - some will swear by them but they're probably not heavy users - it's prone to interference and depends on quality of working and other devices on the ring. Speeds will be nowhere near what is advertised, and will work in burst but won't do sustained high speeds.

They'll do a job but just not great, you'd be far better off having a decent WiFi mesh network (specifically mesh, not WiFi extenders)

He says his laptop works OK. So I guess he must be getting a so, so service. I think I suggested do a speed test on the laptop earlier. The test could be done in different places in the house using the laptop. To see if there are significant differences in WiFi signal strengths across parts of the property.
