I am really proud of one of my nephews from the wife's side - he has helped create a new political party

He saw something wrong in politics and decided to take some action.

He helped create an official new political party. They have their first candidate standing in an upcoming by-election.

This is all about the younger generation being engaged in politics. Plus wanting to change the status quo.

It may turn out to be a failure. Who knows. However he has had the guts and determination to get a new political party registered with the authorities. Plus he is starting to get some people willing to stand up for the cause of trying to change politics in the UK.

Good luck to her. Far too many people just play lip service to issues when they could be doing something about.
Ta for that. My nephew is a guy called Alex Mays. He helped create the party.

I think that this lady is someone who found out about the party and decided to stand in the by-election.

I admire her guts - it costs quite a bit to put a deposit down. I can understand her frustrations she has a young family and lives in one of the most expensive areas of the UK, certainly for residential property. I imagine childcare is hard to get and expensive and she is competing with richer people.

An unbalanced UK economy is leading to most of the problems she is facing e.g small new housing supply, leading for it to be impossible for low income people to live in her area. This likely leads to expensive and limited childcare.

However controlling rents does not work (as landlords withdraw from the market and/or neglect properties see Berlin in recent years). A workable solution is more property building in areas where there is high demand and conversion of retail/office into residential. Of course the difficulty is that articulate, influential and affluent local residents in her area will do everything they can to stop significant new housing anywhere near them.

She needs to state where the money will come from for minimum incomes and free child care and free school meals. I am not saying she is wrong, but it should be costed out in some way.

How far out are her policies with Labour, Liberals, Greens - who she will be competing with?

An interesting response where I do not have any answers.

All I can say is I hope that people in her constituency can ask her. So she can provide the answers.

Good luck to your nephew, and the candidate. More people need to be involved in proper politics. Our democracy is currently suffering from a deficit of such folk, coupled with a surfeit of politically ignorant people who all seem to be equipped with loudhailers.

You can’t knock anyone who is politically engaged
