I’m still bewildered by Keane

Apologies about crying over spilt milk but I’m completely baffled about what he actually did . Can’t ever remember him giving a statement and his silence since he’s gone is deafening ( even a thanks and good luck would of been nice ) . He just breezed in attached to Woodgates hip ( and pocket ) and quietly exited .

How much he got out of the club would be intriguing. The fact he was an accomplished striker is even more astonishing when our expensive attack was so chronically impotent .

I often said, what does he do, who does he work with in training, one of the best modern day PL strikers so the best to have at the club, but yes I found it baffling, especially when Woodgate put his thanks & regrets letter & nothing from Keane, which sort of showed what he contributed

Exactly . Only remember seeing him at Woodys appointment speech Sat smirking with the media

I remember how excited I was about him being appointed. I thought he could really help to get the best out of Britt and Fletcher and that they'd learn a lot from him.

Lesson learnt...........just because players were top quality footballers doesn't instantly mean they'll be top quality coaches. Same applies to Woodgate.

I thought the very same

When we're interested in Keane, with been part of the Ireland set up was talking to Mick Mccarthy about joining up with Woody
Both Mick & the media stated he'll be a top manager, based on what
Shouldn't you do something in the game, like Dyche, before been built up

Spot on . Think of Sir Bobby Charlton and many others .

What was bizarre was appointing an inexperienced manager and then also going for an inexperienced number two, surely an assistant who knew the league would have been a better fit or an older head as director of football to oversee things and be on hand to help out, offer advice etc, would have made sense given that both Woodgate or Keane were new to their roles in club football.

Big Jack done a fantastic career out of managing, Alan Ball done well at Pompey
Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, total oposite

Nobby Stiles I think fared better than the 3 mentioned

We're there others from 1966 team

Thing is do we often know what assistants do? They just get on with it and don’t do media interviews.

Not defending Keane but to say you don’t know what he did as the reason he must have been crap. Well I have no idea what Viv Anderson did for a Robbo (except play a game or two and be his drinking bud) or for that matter Steve Round for Mac, Gary Pendrey for WGS and James Beattie for Garry Monk?

I just think having a go at someone who has a low profile at the Club is an easy target.

If Robbo had got someone like the ex Man Utd full back he was after, or Brian Kidd we'd have been better for it, someone he could turn to when needed, I don't think VA was that type

Same here, I was genuinely excited too to see what positive impact he could have on our club - how wrong I was!

I thought that Fletcher goal at home to Hull was going to be the start of something special but unfortunately that proved to be a rare moment of excitement. Don’t forget he was injured for quite a while when he was here which can’t have helped his impact on the training ground.

I was surprised to hear when he left that he only had a contract until the end of this season. Would he have even stayed on beyond? I guess we’ll never know....

We did try and appoint an experienced coach in Steve Round but after it failing to materialise we just gave up.

If Woodgate had have had any sense he should have agreed to only take the job on provided an experienced coach would also be appointed. After we failed to bring in Round he should have offered Gibson an ultimatum - either bring someone else in or I'll have to resign.

I think it's quite rare for a coach to issue a statement when leaving a club, isn't it?
Maybe we expect different because Keane is quite high profile, while the assistants of Monk and Pulis were obscure?

As for his lack of impact, being a great player doesn't make you a great coach. Teaching and doing are two different skills.

Keane played for 13 teams in his career, and never stuck anywhere. A friend of mine who is involved with LA Galaxy said he had a terrible attitude, wasn't prepared to do anything he didn't want to and wouldn't help other players.

Then Boro snapped him up.

I think someone at MFC needs to do some background checking before signing players and coaches. It was as plain as the nose on your face that he wasn't going to be of any use whatsoever, would do less than the bare minimum and would leave with a payout at the earliest possible date.
