I’m going to start putting pressure on people and if they don’t want to come I’ll leave alone,' the new full-time Boro boss tells the BBC

Fair point.
We wont get back what we paid out for those two, but better cut our losses before they just walk away. Another year of both salaries combined for two players who cost a reported total of 21M+ is beyond the clubs means and needs.
We paid a 100k for Friend ????

Morning.

Connect the dots -

Read what my response was and to whom - were were discussing Fletcher and Assombalonga.
Cheers.

Interesting that he doesn't expect us to spend much, looks like we're still not out of the woods when it comes to finances.

If only we could turn back time and pick any other manager but Garry F***ing Monk.
Yup, still a lot of levelling out to do, the big wages gotta go. I was surprised not to see McNair on that list. Stoke were sniffing and he's probably worth 4-5mill

Just don't sell Tav, I don't want to sell Spence either but would prefer to sell him than Tav.

Everyone is assuming he is thinking of selling Britt and he will go elsewhere at much reduced wages due to financial situation in the leagues. What's to say he won't sign a new contract and stay here on reduced wages. As someone said above Warnock seems to like him and he has done well since he came. I am not bothered either way but seeing how we are not going to get a massive fee for him and we are light on strikers it bears thinking about. He said it is midfield where we are overstocked so the likes of Saville, McNair or Wing could be sacrificed. One or all could go for me.

You can’t make an omelette without breaking an egg . For his Likely fee we can start utilising NWs skill and judgement in bringing a few faces in . Not perfect but wheel and deal
👍

If NW has to use the younger players, players with value to bring the players to the club he he needs to push us on then so be it, we have a cracking manager in place who we have to trust 👍

😇

This is the part he has to get right otherwise it will be much of the same, and he will end up with the same fate as the others.

The thing is he has another year on (reportedly) £35k a week. So thats close enough to £2m to keep him plus maybe £4/5m fee. So could be saving us £7m if he moves on. Which might mean we don't need to sell anyone else.

But if (and its a big if) Warnock can get him firing and he rattles in 20 goals then probably worth it. Needs to sign a new reduced extension now though. Which seems unlikely.

Yes I realise its unlikely but strange things happen in football. Like I said I am not bothered either way but we were really low in the scoring stakes so can we afford to lose a striker when there is so many other positions need filling. Good points though Festa5.

His first choices to sell will be:

Wing - clearly has him sussed, I'd agree we might get 1.5-2m
McNair - I think ideally he would keep as a squad player, but to get our money back and wages off the books would be too good
Britt - if his wages were 20k, not 45k he might look to keep, but his wage and transfer is the highlight of Monks excesses buying midtable champ players for silly wages isn't a great idea, we could probably have signed Ings, Ayoze Perez, Ayew, Gayle and a bunch of far superior strikers for far less investment than the 23m+ we have pumped into signing and paying Britt. In fact the 3 lads at Brentford will be less than Britt

Do you seriously think Monk decided on the wage paid to Britt (or any other player for that matter)?
And as for having Wing "sussed" do you reckon Wing is some dodgy, underhand sort?

Of the 4 you've mentioned friend and Johnson are free agents so we won't get any fee for them
If we had to sell Britt OR Fletcher I'd keep Britt, as I think Warnock will get more goals out of him - like he did at the end if this season
I'm not bothered if both go though - no player in this squad is vital
I'm not desperate for any player to leave, but wouldn't lose sleep over any of them leaving either
Like Block21 says I think he may be talking about Fry and Spence re getting fees - maybe Tav too?
McNair may be on teams' radar eg Stoke

Assombalonga's done well under Warnock, and he has a great bond with Fletcher, but I'm hoping we sell him to Bournemouth or the like to improve our financial situation.

His contribution can be replaced for cheaper and for less wages.

As above I'm not desperate for anyone to stay or leave, but Britt got 15 14 and 11 with managers not rating him or being injured - so if Warnock gets a similar goal return out of him to what he did in the last 7 games he would be getting more
I think I'd prefer to keep Britt over Fletcher for that reason
Then again if he leaves I'm always of the view that it's the team I follow, and don't have a strong like or dislike towards any individual players

Britt's scoring record is probably the best in the Championship - anyone like the name a player with better one. He is worth more than £5m if taking into account a drop in fees this season. The £20m bid by West Ham for Eze shows fees have not dropped significantly. I think the biggest drop will be wages for older players say 30 plus. I would say £7.5m for Britt

I also doubt is on £45k a week more like £30k to £35k - Ayala was on £24k on a contract signed in the Premiership

Fletcher is improving, there are always championship clubs willing to take him on loan, because he was young when we signed him his wages will not as high as Britt's maybe £20-£25k a week. He's certainly worth around £5m. What's the forward at Peterboro gone for £6.5m? you didn't look as good as Fletcher when we played them.

I would not sell any of the young ones unless I got silly bids their value is going up all the time and if we are a top half club they will increase because of that. Most of them would not get as many games as they do at the Boro. If Stoke bid £5m for McNair it is worth looking at what we can buy with that money.

There will be lots of older players available for nothing and loan players. What surprised me last season was when we didn't use the loan market at all in August. That was a mistake.

Think Spence has potential to go further than Tav. Never been a huge fan of Tav but he has started to look decent at end of the season so only time will tell.

Britt has to go this summer. Out of contract next summer, on MASSIVE wages and compared to the rest of the squad could be a point big tension in the squad. If you can get £5m got to be done.

is Fry a Warnock type Centre half? If £8-10m is mentioned I think we will take it.
