I’m absolutely gutted about losing Hayden Hackey

If we’re not promoted this season.

He will be a massive loss - actually think the team we’ve been over the last 10 games is about our true level without Hackney.

Our best player by an absolute mile and a joy to watch. I haven’t been that attached to the other “crown jewels” we’ve had to sell on because we’re stuck in the Championship - I liked Tav and Lath but wasn’t that bothered, Morgan Rogers was only here 5 minutes, Djed barely played for us, Chupa we couldn’t afford, Adama was a real shame to lose.

But it’s infuriating to lose a player like HH because as a club we can’t match his ability. Not least because I don’t think you can moneyball another Hackney up: his profile as a playmaking all-action midfielder who gets everywhere on the pitch is unique, his touch maps are insane.

Going to be a very different team without him, I don’t see how we replace him.

Will be the most disappointing thing if we dont go up. He wants to play for us for a season or two in the EPL.

You can't begrudge him leaving if we dont go up though. You have to shake his hand, thank him for his services and wish him well.....

And invest the money very wisely.

I think HH is one of those players that would return to us like post 30 years old for a second spell.

I'd like nothing more than see HH in the top flight with us ..
He's a genuine role model for every kid booting a ball about on Teesside..
Not only his undoubted ability .. he obviously has that now .
But he was bumped on loan , didn't shine... Stuck in and took his chance
And more importantly... He's a genuine good fking role model of how to behave away from the game ..

i was ***ed off we sold coburn and tavernier but its going to be another level of disappointment. Absolutely fuming his boro career will be over because of the clubs mismanagement in january. My only hope is he goes abroad and plays in say the bundesliga. God forbid if Newcastle or Sunderland come in for him

Its going to be a hard goodbye for sure. But, if we cannot achieve promotion he should depart with all our blessings.

It must be so hard for him sitting out at the moment and not able to directly impact the game and its hard to think he may now have few games left to play for us...

If at a final whistle of the season in play offs we haven't done it then it is Hackney that will be the saddest thing, shades of Juninho after the final whistle at Leeds in May 1997 when he knew relegation meant he would leave the club.

It's not the ending a local hero like him deserves, leading us to the EPL and cementing is legend status is how it should be.

Will miss Hackney no doubt about it, but not conerned who he joins , just the highest fee possible. Malanda I expect him to improve as he becomes used to the rigours of this division. Lfe goes on. I think the club and Kim has more issues getting rid of the dead wood, this could set us back a while.

If promotion doesn’t happen then Hackney leaves with all the best will in the world. He is a PL player without doubt and deserves it.

Boro needs to make sure the fee is good, and we can reinvest in the squad. Regardless of what happens it’s going to be another summer of significant changes in the playing squad.

Good luck to the lad, he's too good for us in reality.
It'll irk me all summer if we lose him, just as it did when we lost all our best players because we couldn't keep up with their ceiling.
I've said it before, but when you get talents like Hackney you have to surround them with decent enough players to get the most benefit from their skills. Looks likely that we'll once again fail to do that and be stuck in the Championship for another season.
It's even more irking that we've got Hellberg at the helm as well and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we won't give him the tools to secure promotion if we lose Hackney.

I'll be gutted, but if we don't go up, I hope he gets a really good move.

It's a bit different to all our other high profile exits recently, as Hackney's actually from here.
Seeing a Teessider playing at the highest level would be a nice thing to see, even if it'd be gutting to lose our best player.

Law Macabe will be given a chance to be the next hh and it wouldn’t surprise me if he took his chance.

What if HH likes what he sees with the new manager and decides to give him one full season’s service ?
Why not ?

He could be thinking, I’m happy, I’m settled, no club has come in that’s sold me a vision and the money is great what is being offered but so is my happiness and playing every week for my home town club

🤷🏻‍♂️

Tbh, i think he already stayed what many would consider an additional season.

I think it would be hard to sell another year. Its a short career and you have to push on if you have the skills. You have to test yourself at the highest level while at peak.

Wouldnt blame him at all.

Malanda, Hackney, targett (I doubt we could afford to buy) - they are going to be big boots to fill
I am not bothered about the other two going. Losing Hackney is a massive blow, people still talk about the 3 Points fiiasco costing us that team with prime Juninho .fans will talk similarly about Januarys mismanagement for years costing us our own home-grown superstar to me its bigger loss than not being promoted. Its a huge blow to the fanbase and a real negative statement for the club that we arent good enough to keep him. After watching absolute dross in the championship for seasons watching Hackney develop into the brilliant player he is today has been probably the greatest highlight. I wish him well but i am so annoyed about January its going to really hurt as a fan losing hayden

And stay on 15 -20 grand a week instead of a 100

If I was HHs dad I’d be saying, you have to weigh up a few things my boy, the premier league might seem like the holy grail but look at other players who have left for big money; chuba is now a journeyman sat on the bench not enjoying himself but plenty of money in the back pocket.
Is that happiness ?

I don’t think it is.
If you think you have to leave because others are expecting you to go then you should ignore that.
Don’t be guided only by the money. Be guided by the people who you will work with and the stability you see even though that can change quickly at clubs.

Make a choice that feels right for you like when you turned down Ipswich because it didn’t feel right.
Life is all about decisions and choices and whatever choice you make will come with its own challenges along the way, that’s a certainty so be prepared for that, whichever choice you make.
