I’d argue that this is the worst strike force we’ve ever had

I think that this is the worst since Maccarone and Nemeth. Didn't Szilard finish top scorer with 8 or 9 goals one year?

In the past 25 years, we have occasionally bought proven, established strikers. Ravanelli, Yakubu, Viduka, Hasselbaink; you knew what we were getting.

Granted, strikers of that calibre in 2020 would go for insane amounts of money, but we still persist on buying strikers without any consideration of what/who helped them succeed elsewhere. (In fact, success at another club seems to be negotiable when signing for Boro now) Meanwhile, team after team gets promoted with 'Who he?' strikers who were signed for peanuts and score more goals than we've seen from a full forward line combined.

Ray Hankin - like an Italian Tank in reverse: always a yard off the pace, spatial awareness of candy floss and accuracy of a third hand scud missile

I don’t think the current lot are anywhere near as bad as Paul Sugrue, David Currie and Gary MacDonald. What were their records? Who else did they play for? The went to Darlo or non league in short order after us, didn’t they?

Let’s ask a different question. How would the current lot get on with Heine Otto playing behind them?

1983-84 Currie 15 goals in 35 starts
1984-85 Currie 11 goals in 35 starts

Clough bought Currie for Forest, who also played for Barnsley, that sort of answers your question I think

When your creativity comes exclusively from two very young and inexperienced wing backs who wouldn't even have been in consideration but for injuries then your squad isn't good enough.

Our strikers don't create enough problems for the opposition. In the absence of consistent service they've been found lacking in ability to make things happen for themselves.

Looking at the last 2 games I'd be happy at the moment if our strikers created ANY problems for the opposition

I was going to say fair enough, but then I curious about his record at Forest, 8 appearances, 1 goal, joined in January, shipped out in August. So if your argument is based on Cloughies judgement ...?

anyway, Currie was ok, certainly nowhere near the worst we’ve had, but the question was about the two strike forces as a whole.

It's all opinions Lefty, someone quoted Willey as the worst striker he'd seen, IMHO I woukd disagree, I thought Alan Willey was OK, certainly far from the worst
Remember him scoring 2 v Sunderland in the pouring rain
Is Gestede actually any better than Currie, or Alan Willey,

Alan Willey was terrible. Just checked and I'm staggered he scored 7 goals in 50 games. My overriding memory and the most impressive thing I saw him do was away to Stoke in the 1975-1976 season, when we played the game at Port Vale due to the storm damage to one of the Stoke stands. He'd been is normal self, totally in effective, when he picked the ball up in our half and set off on an amazing run weaving his way down the pitch, taking on and beating about 5 Stoke players as he headed to the edge of the Stoke box. We couldn't believe it, it was so out of context for him and it was shaping up to be goal of the season. Just as he lined up the shot he somehow managed to somehow trip himself over and the ball bobbled tamely away. It was all downhil from that point

Ray Hankin was way passed his best and virtually static... Him and Billy Ashcroft were possibly the worse I have seen - even Billy Woof and Stan Webb get a honourable mention

The worst striker I have seen wear a Boro shirt (and there have been many terrible ones) was Caleb Folan. Thankfully he only played the once as a sub in the WBA 0-5 hammering. Dear me he was awful. Marcus Bent was awful too.

On David Currie and Cloughie, check this out :ROFLMAO:
