Hybrid bike

If you're not planning on anything too extreme or muddy there are lots of nice gravel bikes around will do the job. They'll also probably be more fun to ride on the road if you do that too.

I think there's a problem when someone wants a hybrid, I reckon they're the worst of both worlds (road/mtb) because you'll quickly want to either go in the mountain biking direction or more on the roads and a hybrid is pretty limited at both. A hardtail 29 MTB or a gravel bike let you go properly in whichever type of riding you're inclined towards.

I got a felt cyclocross from the shop in nunthorpe. U can easily put hybrid tyres on it if you like. Mine was 750 a few years ago. Could look at a tourer depending on street cred lol. My uncle goes all over on his tourer.

You really need to get out and try one. Out of the few bikes I have had the Giant hybrid was the least enjoyable. Mainly used between Hartlepool and Stockton, so mainly road other than cinder type cycle path between Greatham and Billingham. Good for cardio mind, everything seemed like hard work. I have a cyclocross now and much better.

I bought this last year and I've done a few long rides on it including the coast to coast. Don't have any complaints but must confess I'm not massively knowledgeable about bikes. Although the cycling enthusiasts who I did the coast to coast with seemed to think it was a decent bike for the money. Think there is a 2020 version out now which is a bit more expensive.

Just go in a shop. More u pay better the bike. Godleys in nunthorpe but even go outdoors there very helpful. We all mean well but like the post above says we can make it more confusing but there is some good advice. And enough armour to ask questions

You can get a decent hybrid for well under a grand and that cycling weekly article Finny has pointed to shows there are some good makes too for about £500. I have a Cannondale Bad Boy for some off roading and it’s good. Most of my cycling is road so use my road bike (hybrid to heavy) but do enjoy the grittier paths to sightsee on the Cannondale.

I bought an ORBEA Hybrid late last year - nice bike, but as mentioned above - it is neither one thing or the other and you ultimately move on to something specific. I ordered a Carbon Fibre road bike in early june (RIBBLE - still waiting for it to arrive) and I doubt the Hybrid will get much action in the future.

I have a hybrid, I like it because I can go fast(ish) but it can take a curb properly (essential for the kind of city riding I do). You can't do that on a road bike. Plus I'm not a fan of dropped handlebars.

That said, I'm thinking about upgrading it to something a bit better, so watching this thread with interest.
