Hunt Death

Mother was riding in front with her behind on a lead rope. Alot of people saying it was an illegal hunt as well though don’t know if that’s true. I know people that know the mother. I saw a pic of the little one on the horse before it started she looked way too small to be doing it, didn’t have a body protector on either. Though clearly a horrific accident, it was certainly forceable and wouldn’t be surprised if mother or the hunt ends up in trouble over it. If she didn’t realise it was a bad idea the hunt organisers should of told her not to do it. It’s not recommended to put a child on a horse until they are 3-3.5.

Not sure the police will do anything about it and maybe that's right?

But you're right the Hunt have to carry a degree of responsibility and certainly the Master who is 'responsible for the overall management and conduct of the hunt'

I doubt anything the police can do will punish the mother more than she’s feeling, just not in the public’s interest.

From a Health and Safety wise it’s ludicrous and some serious questions needed for the organiser of the “hunt”.

It's shocking. I know people will be questioning the 'right and wrongs' that are pretty clear. I don't see the need to put a 2 year old on a horse at a hunt.

The point is that no matter what happens someone has lost a child through 'stupidity'. That will be with them for life (more so than dying of something out of there control).

So I don't see the 'point' of criminal proceedings. What does it achieve? It's still an accident. The one thing that will happen is health and safety will be in and they will probably go after whoever is in charge. Although it really comes down to the parents to risk asses putting someone so young on a pony (apparently only wearing a helmet and no other equipment).

I grew up in the 'proper' Cumbrian countryside after my parents left Middlesbrough. Its a different life and I had mates at school who lived on farms in the middle of nowhere. They were firing guns and riding motorbikes from very young ages.

I imagine this young girl may ride a pony daily. Just something they didn't even give a second thought too. I'm not condoning it.... Just saying it may have been 'the norm'.

Big difference in riding a pony daily on a private yard compared to a very busy hunt with a lot of excitable horses and dogs though.

Its a hell of a regret to live with and you are right it’s probably not in the public interest to prosecute however maybe it should be, maybe the stupid people amongst us and let’s face it this country has plenty, need an example making to see just what a bad idea this was. A toddler has lost her life because a parent put her in a dangerous situation, if it had been a dog that killed her they would absolutely be charging the parent.

I take your points and Priv and Disco7 and agree about not punishing the parents but I still think the Master should be held to account.
I live in the country and I'm not an 'anti' mainly because it supports a helluva lot of jobs.
But they are a law unto themselves.... some of the stuff that goes on and gets hidden is just appalling and they often bully by numbers. The Bedale is one of them.

On the basis that in a car they would have to be in a car seat, they probably wouldnt be riding a bike at this age. Who in their right mind would out them on a horse, even a shetland pony. Prosecute those responsible and make an example of their stupidity.

It wasn’t a Shetland, it was quite abit bigger. Some kind of hill or moor pony. From the pic I’d say it was probably 12 hands maybe upto 12-2. Shetlands are about 8.
