Hundreds of Jobs in MIddlesbrough

Middlesbrough doesn't have car parking charges past 5:30pm it's free to park in all side roads and council owned car parks that are open, it's been that way for a number of years. Currently Capt Cook car park closes on the evening, about 6-7pm, I haven't seen any notices that that will change, but it may well be in the pipeline that no one has bothered to ask about yet.

I've just left a budget meting and things are getting very very tight, currently Year end 22/23 83% of the councils budget is spent on Children and Adult care! the budget is about £120million, I'm sure you can all do the maths.

So we're left with 17% to do everything else.
This is why car parking is going up, it's why street lights are getting turned off and it's why other much less palpable are going to happen in the next 2 months.

Basic fact is, we simply don't have any money.
Because the Mayor receives it instead and splodges it around as he sees fit then awaits his little group of troopers to tell him what a great job he is doing.
Rishy also splodged a lot of our money around and lapped up the "what a great guy you are" stuff. Look at him now.

Must be awful to be so partizan in your political views that you feel the need to attack anything and everything proposed by those you see as the 'other side' and see zero positives. Blinkered doesn't quite cut it. Feeling unashamedly blessed that I can take on open minded approach to political discourse without feeling wedded to one side or the other. Hatred manifests itself in many forms and left and right are equally guilty. Not that that will ever be acknowledged on this board. The search for the middle ground however goes on....

I'm a centrist, the tories are in power, they're the ones who have mucked up our economy and been guilty of corruption in the last 12 years. I'll treat Labour with the same level of scrutiny when they are in power, but right now I don't need to balance out what they are doing because they're not in power.

Keyboard warriors are key board warriors. My opinion is different to yours as if I did not have a job I would look at this job as a way to get paid till I found better work. This job might just lead to something better you never know it’s better than staying on dole
All I said was that a knob was a knob. Most people agreed with that because a knob IS a knob.

They probably are, and of course any jobs are welcome. The concerns are that :-

a - the leisure industry is largely going to provide low income jobs.
b - without resolving the areas wider employment issues with quality long term jobs, then there won't be enough disposable income to keep all these leisure businesses operable

and 'Eton College', lets call it what it is, Star Acadamies. Great for a small number of boys, useless for girls or the vast majority of people in the area. We need proper funding for the all students to achieve more, that could then attract more business to the area, to stop the brain drain.
Wages in the hospitality industry, more specifically those businesses that do food and drink are going to rise come April due to the shortage of qualified and experienced staff.

Totally agree, but I would like to know what they have in mind. Opposition members say they shouldn’t share too much because the Torys will steal their good ideas. I get that but I would also hide behind that too if I didn’t really have a plan. Genuinely hope they come in and get time to fix the mess. I’m just nervously sceptical that they can. Crazy situation really for a country full of talent.

Problem with that is that with more people feeling the financial crunch, there won't be enough customers, so plenty of businesses in that sector will go pop, leading to more available employees to balance it out.

Of course they have plans, the big concern for me is that those plans will be misconstrued by a corrupt media to make them sound terrible, while ignoring the alternative which is an even worse plan from the tories.

Why wait until April, if increasing wages is they key to survival. 25% of hospitality industry is likely to have disappeared by then.

And a key board warrior is a keyboard warrior.
(A person who behaves aggressively and/or in an inflammatory manner in online text-based discussion media, but at the same time does not behave similarly in real life, potentially due to cowardice,)

New tax year isn't it?
25%? No.

Plus there are loads of jobs available in the sector I was talking about @BoroMart, PAYE and self employed.

there are loads of jobs available in most sectors in this country but that hasn't driven wages up for anyone but CxOs

Oh yes, the 'anything is better than something argument.'

Maybe that's the whole point of zero hours contracts.... did you consider that?

Target the vulnerable and desperate, give them nothing other than minimum wage, no rights, no pension, no security, use and abuse by Employers.

Many people get tied into it because they cant get a reference to get that 'better work' you suggest.

And btw the 'Dole' doesn't exist any more but it's a handy label for Tory shrills.

You will find I have never started calling people names on this board like others on here when they do not agree with their opinion.
I'll be honest with you mate. I think you've got Bumface all wrong. His tone is always lighthearted but if you've not previously engaged with him directly I can understand why you might be taking the position you are. He really is a good bloke 👍

What does that have to do with knobs?
