Hundred Club

Spent a couple of seasons in the 100 Club, courtesy of my ol fellas job.

Effectively it meant you got a cuppa and a biccy at half time.

I always thought it was 100 room and why I chose that username. However my memory let me down. I couldn't even get that right.

I believe it was called the Hundred Club, because admission originally was limited to 100 members. You could buy a 100 Club season ticket which give you a seat in the upper North Stand. I went in once as a 9 year old mid week and mod afternoon and there were retired blokes in blazers and ties etc knocking back the spirits a bit like the Winchester in Minder. My dad deliveried some beer in one of his mini buses and was asked in as a local businessman and it was the school holidays so he took me along. Remember in those days it was dificult to buy alcohol in the afternoon after 2.30pm, because of licensing, but private clubs cold stay open and operate a bar. I chatted with 2 old blokes about the season ahead, they had been following the Boro for 50 plus years (George Camsell days). I think they took to me a bit because not many 9 year olds could hold a Boro conversation with them (like those Vauxhall Zaifra adverts with the kids talking about the parents). My dad just stood and laughed - he couldn't believe what I could come out with as though he had just fathered a junior Rain Man.
