Hull City v Boro 28 March 1970

This was the first season I can remember following the results of Boro. I can still remember us going second on Good Friday by winning 3-2 at Watford but we played ahead of our rivals who played the equivalent game on Easter Tuesday - 2 teams went up that season. I think we finished 4th.

The away fans were mainly down a covered side terrace which is in view. A local train dropped fans off almost in the ground at that side. Hull was the first away game I went to - a 4-3 defeat around 1971/2, it was 3-3 at half time.

Did anybody on here go to the Hull v Boro game December 1972? - I'm sure there wasn't only me and my 2 mates dressed up in Clockwork Orange gear! :D

Pretty sure that's Derrick Downing not Gordon Jones in the last picture. No doubt Erimus can confirm.
Thought it looked more like Joe Laidlaw.
Both he and Downing played that day

It's definitely Derrick Downing - I played football with him - ok, it was only a kick about in Worcester Street when he lived in digs on Crescent Road , but it was very competitive! ;)

You couldn’t imagine footballers living in crescent road, and having a kick about in Worcester street nowadays could you

No chance! He actually came out and asked if he could have a kick about with us! Lovely guy and not a bad player either

6 excellent action shots there Gnasher, No6 our ex kit man heading the ball, don't know why the Hull players smiling, unless he's pushed him over 😡

picture 1/20 = alex smith and willie whigham
picture 2/20= (maybe) alex smith and gorden jones (hair too light and to full for laidlaw)
picture 3/20 = willie maddren (hickton in background) mcilmoyle in the air, Micky Allen looking on in awe, and willie in goal
picture 4/20 - willie maddren, alex smith and whigham
picture 5/20 = joe laidlaw
picture 6/20 = alex smith, mcilmoyle, hickton, allen, (again looking on), maybe maddrens 50% face on the right
picture 7/20 = says gordon jones but not sure with Chilton who was CF and a 6 footer - Boro defender looks well below him in height - not smith or allen legs look too stocky for maddren so high probability its Jones
