Hull City Fans

The club switched from season tickets to a year round direct debit a couple of years ago - supposedly a fairer way forward for fans. They also scrapped concession tickets and moved people around in the stadium. The cynical side of a direct debit is very clear now when Hull City owners have refused to suspend monthly payments - they are still taking them despite the last 4 games of the season being postponed and total uncertainty regarding the future. What a way to treat supporters.

Have Middlesbrough fans been refunded for their season tickets? What about the other 90 clubs?

I've not heard of the direct debit scheme before but, coronavirus cancellations aside, it seems like a good idea. I hate paying things annually. Things are much more manageable paid on a monthly basis.

I don’t quite understand the outrage Rob. As far as I know no clubs are refunding/freezing anything as yet. They’re all desperate to keep their heads above water during this crisis.

That said, I don’t see why someone can’t just suspend their direct debit?

There isn't a fair way for any group in football at the moment. Supporters who have a season ticket are losing out on part of their entitlement. Clubs are losing out because there's no gate money, and they are having to pay players to do nothing. Broadcasters are missing out because there's no football to televise.

The fairest solution seems to me to end the season today, top three in every league promoted. No team is relegated.
Scrap the league cup, and increase relegation by one extra team per league for the next three seasons.
Broadcasters pay what they are contractually obliged to pay teams for this season, and reduce next season's payment pro rata by the number of games lost this season.
Broadcasters refund subscribers by a pro rata amount on next season's subscription. Clubs refund season ticket holders by a pro rata discount next season.
Open the transfer window tomorrow so that out of contract players can be moved on sooner.

There won't be any European football in 2020-21 season, so the extra league fixtures shouldn't be a problem for Premier League teams.

Really, you would want to be locked into a rolling contract with your club, with no concessions offered?
You can pay for your season card at Boro by direct debit - in fact given present circumstances that could work out to be the best option for a lot of us.
I have details for a lot of the clubs in the league - nearly all have now suspended Early Birds. Some have suspended all forthcoming sales. It varies but a couple of clubs, you can guess perhaps have as yet not stopped taking any payments.
But yes the vast majority of clubs, even Premier have stopped early bird and every other deadline.

A few years back people bought an early bird season ticket at the Boro and then they went and got promoted so everyone got 4 games fewer. How was that fair?

Have just looked up Hull City members - that is what they call it - as it is not season tickets anymore - they only had 8000 at the start of the season. The numbers plummeted when they changed payment systems. At the time some fans were moved when a stand was closed and concessions were scrapped until the Premier League intervened and told them it was illegal. They had to slash prices during last season. But one of the strengths of the system is they were able to reduce monthly payments and offer special rates for matchday supporters mid season when attendances had dropped so low.

Boro Mike - more games versus higher quality of football. Many would prefer more games. Many would prefer to see us play Man City, Man United, Liverpool etc.

Surely anyone buying an early bird season ticket for the following season when your team is in the top six this season must know there's a chance of promotion? Isn't that why you are buying?
