Huge game tonight.

Can't wait, big opportunity to build a gap, and Wigan's points deduction helps whatever the result.

Sorry BoroBen but not wanting to be pessimistic, but I do not entirely agree with your reasoning. If for instance Wigan are not able to complete their remaining fixtures, then isn't their record this season expunged from the table and thus Boro will lose 4 points? Luton will also lose 4 points but other all other relegation threatened teams (like Hull) will be better off compared with Boro.
Of course there will only be 2 other sides to be relegated if Wigan are removed , but giving Hull, Barnsley, Stoke and Huddersfield a points advantage over Boro makes the "helpfulness " of Wigan's situation debatable.

The thing is Hull are not there for the taking. They scored 3 past Birmingham, 4 past Swansea, won at Elland Rd (albeit that win was with Bowen and Grosicki). They do concede for fun too at times. They are obviously poor at the back. Their results seem to suggest they are in freefall, but nevertheless capable of causing an upset. Having seen highlights of their game v Birmingham, they appear to move the ball forward at pace. I am sure Warnock will have us organised but we can’t allow ourselves to get drawn into too open a game. If we stay solid and stick to our game plan I believe we can and will win tonight. We mustn’t let Hull dictate the pace of the game.

We're 3 points above the drop even if we lose tonight.

But the teams in the relegation zone are in such good form that we can't really afford not to get something from this.

I agree with that. A draw wouldn’t be bad at all but a win would be great. And then we go into Sunday’s game against a team in mid table with not much to play for really. Back to back wins is huge for confidence and the players will really start to believe in what Warnock is doing if they don’t already

Some of the teams around us are in promotion chasing form & have come out of the blocks on fire, hitting the ground running

Then there'd only be two active relegation places, and Luton would be in one of them.
Barnsley, Charlton and Hull would have one less game to pick up points in.

But I can't see Wigan not completing the fixtures.

Can’t see them not completing their fixtures. They have made a big point already in saying they will and Whelan is looking to help in whatever way he can. They will still believe they can stay up and rightly so.

No easy games in the championship we know this. Who would expect Luton to draw with Leeds at Elland Road? Or even us to go to West Brom and outplay them?

That said they must be about the only side in the league with form as bad as ours. That Birmingham equaliser is potentially quite psychologically damaging too. We "should" win. I'm fairly confident.

Agree with that. Given the points deduction and that they have Hull, Barnsley and Charlton still to play, in a perverse way it is good for Boro as they will need to fight to the last against those 3 rivals whereas otherwise they could have perhaps been safe and had their deckchairs out.

Look at all this confidence!
I just hope we start like we did against Stoke, get on top of them early and see where go from there.
I've seen a couple of posts on other forums (stokes forum, the joy) where people have said boro won't lose again this season... It's this begrudging respect that you get with Warnock, whilst quickly pointing out he's a dinosaur.
Erimus maybe stoke got battered after playing us because us beating them really made them depressed. 🤣

If anything, I always feel more nervous when we're in the lead than when it's 0-0 or we're losing.
Counting down every second, and that doesn't really go away unless we're 3-0 up.
We are almost never 3-0 up.

Agree with this. The psychological effect Warnock has on other clubs is massive.

Whenever he's walked into previous jobs, I've always thought, damn, they'll stay up now, or they'll get promoted now.

Same with Allardyce whenever he takes over a club.
