I have a real feeling that he’ll end up at Sunderland. Played a huge part in Alex Neil’s Norwich side and can see them offering him a longer contract than we’ll be wanting to give him

I think jonny Howson has more loyalty to us than do something dirty like this
I’m not so sure - hearing some ITK stuff that Wilder isn’t the most popular of managers after ‘Burnley gate’
He went awol for 3 days before a crucial Huddersfield game which we got a spanking by what I still believe is an average side, like forest - average.
(Sheff utd had a full team out in the 2nd leg and battered forest - so unlucky)
I’m not convinced by ‘puff your chest out’ Wilder and am very much hoping I’m proven wrong.
His influence on the players waned following the Burnley saga - lack of mutual respect starting to set in ?
Doesn’t bode well for me.

I think there would have been a risk of him joining Leeds if they'd gone down but don't think he will now, and they probably won't be interested in him anyway.

It's probably as 'simple' as what we are offering him. No doubt it's reduced terms and down to contract length.

If we are offering him a 1 year deal on say 10k a week. That's probably a big reduction on his last 1 year reduction (warnock said it was a significant wage drop).

So if anyone is offering him a 2 year deal and even 1-2k more a week then clearly he'd be mad not to take it. It's his last move. I would say he's settled in the Leeds area. So any number of northern sides are an option.

I think it's very much like the George Friend scenario. Brum offered him a far better deal. So you can knock him for taking it. I hope he stays. Yet if he doesn't then wish him well.

I agree, I wasnt too happy with the way he wouldnt come out & say hes either staying at the Boro, or just leave, then the forwards he brought here, the thumpings we suffered under CW & then his outburst after the Preston farce, then he only done what every man & his dog knew would happen

Talk is cheap

Wilder’s job isn’t to be popular. He’s come in because this club has been treading water in the second tier for far too long and needs a shake up. There are players in the squad who didn’t and/or don’t contribute enough, who’ve failed to meet expectations, who need to be moved on. Wilder is in charge to sort it out. His track record, at all levels, suggests he more than knows what he’s doing and what it takes to build a successful team.

He’s been in charge for a matter of months. This rush to reach a definitive judgment on managers, players, staff, signings… is incredibly tedious IMO.

The Huddersfield prep rumours were around at the time I think. But the only way it makes sense is if he went off after the Bournemouth game. That was only 2 days before Huddersfield.

I'm sure some players are pee'd off with him. I hope they are. Only a few seem interested in getting promoted. It looked like too many stepped back whenever we had a sniff of the play offs.

I think he will get offered a decent figure. There was a issue with injuries with George Friend which may affected his package. I believe he missed quite a few games 2021/2 season with injury too.

The players know they have a decent manager in Wilder, probably our best since Karanka.

AWOL 3 days before Huddersfield :ROFLMAO: I seem to remember seeing him in Bournemouth, you know, on the Boro bench. Why make stuff up?

Huddersfield 3rd, Forest 4th - that's average? You think we were better than them last season? Or are we "average" too? So one average team beating another, that happens.

Huddersfield finished 7 points in front of Sheff Utd. They deservedly finished 3rd, because they are a good team.

Agreed.(y)

They were overun too many times last season. Games like QPR at home for instance.

This!

I really like Howson as a person and a player, a good honest pro, gives his all, amazing engine and rarely inured. He'll do as good a job at RCB, RB and CM as anyone in the squad pretty much when called upon. But, we lack leadership, aggression, bite, dynamism and athleticism in midfield, Howson is a big part of that problem unfortunately and being a year older isn't going to make him any better.

Rotation option? Definitely.

Club captain and figurehead? No issues from me.

Nailed on starter in the DCM berth, dictating our play, rallying the troops when the chips are down, going toe to toe in the physical battle with the best/toughest CM's in the league? Not good enough in my opinion I'm afraid.

Hes been a loyal servant to this club, not quite in the bracket of gorgeous George - but hes always given 100%.
As yet - we dont know whats happening - but he is in the twilight of his football career and will be looking to the future to provide for his family.

Wilder:

Lot of bullschitt talked about the best Manager we`ve had in years who, 17 games into last season, started to get a tune out of a previous managers rag bag of players going nowhere. Lets have a sense of perspective, realism and practicality.

He'll be offered a contract and probably take it. It'll be announced fairly soon i expect

AWOL apart from the Bournemouth game and Huddersfield press conference etc etc?

People like to make up stories for attention.

I once beat Martin Keown in an arm wrestle at Heathrow airport, he was so overcome by me besting him he offered me gay sex in the nearby bathroom. I knocked him back obviously, not purely because I'm straight. More to do with the fact he looked like an aged frog that had been abusing steriods and hitting the gym too much.

Thankfully I've never run into Jobi McAnuff on my travellers, that'd be a harder decision for me.
