Howson signs 1 year extension

Brilliant news.

He may not end up playing as much next season - but his presence in and around the dressing room is vital. I firmly believe Hackney is looking so good because he's playing alongside a leader and a seasoned/experience pro.

I always remember when Woodgate let Leadbitter go in the January 2019 I thought it was a big mistake, he rarely played for us that season but there was no surprise we fell off a cliff and Warnock needed to be brought in to rescue us. A squad isn't just 11 footballers. It's much more than that, and experience can be priceless in big moments (both on and off the field).

Great news.
Like a super-human, he`s got younger by the game this season.
Delighted for him and the club.

The Man Who Never Gives Up.

I thought he was done here about 3 years ago. Incredible really.

That's because some of the board experts, oracles of all things football, were happy to tell everyone that "his legs have gone".

There were also some nasty rumours about his private life at the beginning of the season, which seem to have magically gone away now that we're winning games of football.

Great way to wake up from nights. A cracking bit of news 👌

I doubt anyone has earned one more.

He's an absolute model pro who hardly ever misses a match. Infact until recently he hardly ever missed a minute. We can clearly 'manage him' a bit more due to yellows and bigger squad depth.

He simply just shows no signs of fatigue or levels dropping off. The last couple of games in particular he's stood out in CM. Just oozes class.

I Don't think this was ever in doubt. I didn't even think it was even division dependent. He could still offer plenty if we go up.

Closing in on 300 appearances. You can't knock that👍

People saying he may not play much next year are forgetting his one man midfield bossing display against Spurs!
So well deserved and buzzing we've got it done before the summer.
In my eyes an absolute legend at Boro for his longevity and consistency

If we went up this year (by any means) or next he would absolutely be on a level with Leadbitter in terms of recent midfield heroes/captains.

Also one of few who looked the part against Chelsea.

Howson has to be everything that the aspiring pro footballer has to aim for, and in many respects Howson’s success and dedication over the years proves that versatility not just as a footballer but also as a human can work for you.

I think I speak for many that Howson has been an outstanding team player for the club, especially under Pulis who played him out of position throughout his tenure but Howson didn’t complain when he could have easily left the club,

This season in particular he has been on a different level, but at the same time he has maintained his consistency with incredible poise.

I’m not too sure if Wilder’s comments at the beginning of the season pushed Howson onto this level but whatever happened between him and Wilder, Howson is obviously the hands down winner and therefore (he more than) deserves his contract extension.

Great news, I was amazed leeds didn’t try and nab him last summer especially after his performances against Man Utd and Spurs in the cup. They were crying out for midfield reinforcements, he was free, local and knows that club inside out. More fool them. Even at his age he would of massively improved their options, especially with Phillips leaving.

Great interview with him on the website
Just watched it. Good interview. Be interesting to see how he gets on in the prem. if we get there. He will be remembered as a good, solid championship player, who is maybe not quite good enough to hold down a premier league midfield spot. No shame in that. Let's enjoy the rest of the season first.
