How was this not a pen

First time I've seen it from that angle. From the other side the direction the ball travelled made it look like he had won the ball but that clearly shows he was nowhere near it. Nailed on penalty

No such thing as a clear penalty in this league with the standard of officiating we have.

I actually think the timing didn't work in our favour (not that this is an excuse, of course). It was right at the end of the half when we were really pushing at their goal, and of course everyone would get excited and shout for a pen when a player goes down, and maybe it all just looked too desperate.

At the time it looks close and a poor decision but seeing it back it’s absolutely nailed on

We sit in the east stand & couldnt really see properly to make out if it was a penalty or not, but the lack of reaction of the players at the time gave me the impression it wasnt a penalty
100% a penalty looking at that jedi

The annoying thing though, outside the box & there's no doubt whatsoever, its a free kick

Stonewaller. Defenders reactions are a dead giveaway. I didn't have a clear view of it in the north but it looked like a pen, but thought it can't of been as we didn't really appeal!! Suppose the jones one evens that out though

There were 2 blatant pushes on our players in 1st half just as they were getting their shots off, one was on McGree and the other on Forrs I think it was.
Both nailed on penalties for me if as was the case with the referee on Saturday who kept allowing advantage, then ages later going back and giving Bristol free kicks.
Also have a look at the video clips of the penalties we should have had against Huddersfield in previous match, as well as assaults on McNair and Whatmore (keeper doing a Battiston on him). Unbelievable.

Ref in the Huddersfield game was worthy of a red card such was his flagrant abuse of the rules.

Sooner we have VAR the better. Refereeing standards in the league are atrocious.
It won't make any difference, it'll be the same useless feckers on the panel.

VAR isn't the answer for me, better and ultimately accountable referees are. Who do post match interviews to justify their decisions. Maybe even rankings and the worst ones get dropped the better ones get more money?

I'd do this allongside post match punishment for players for diving, shithousery, sly digs etc. Better control of the game clock, new rulings to cut out time wasting and the plague of under pressure 'injuries' that teams get away with faking week in week out.

Penalty decisions going against you or getting away with one yourself is all part of the game. And obviously still happens contentiously in the PL most weeks, with VAR, dozens of cameras and supposedly better officials.

There's other stuff I'd tackle first 'McNairing' for one, whereby a player closing you down exhales hard enough for their breath to be felt on your neck, this causes your legs and knees to fold up under you, forcing you to tumble forward and wrap yourself around the ball. A terrible condition, and apparently incurable.
