How much is enough

For you to retire today and live comfortably for the rest of your life. I remember when a million was the holy grail. These days that is fast becoming eroded due to inflation.

at my current age of 47 I would say i probably need about 4 million to never worry about money again and live a comfortable life!

what do you think you would need?

You must have pretty expensive tastes. Assuming you live until the age of 80, that would mean you’d need well over £100k per year to be comfortable.

Yes I guess I was going a bit high - what concerns me is the cost of living in a home in my later years - social care for the elderly is expensive and on the increase.maybe I’ll have t be a bit more scientific in my calculations.

Depends on your lifestyle and whether your retirment plan includes numerous foreign holidays each year, always gaving a new shiney car, regularly eating out, financially supporting children and dependents etc?

it’s amazing how much you cut your monthly outgoings when you retire. Less travelling, likely no loans outstanding, mortgage paid off. LTA digs into your pension pot over a £1066000 anyway.

You must be a FatCat if you are looking for £4m

I only have £100k in mine now and I’m 40. That’s with a decent company pension (if I put 5% in they put 10%).

I couldn’t dream of £1m, never mind £4m.
